Funeral service for Mrs. Wyoming Jeanise West, 68 of Copperas Cove, TX will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, 4:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will be held Monday, March 17, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Mrs. West passed away March 1, 2025, in Copperas Cove, TX. She was born February 3, 1957, in Leeds, AL.

When we speak of Mrs. Wyoming West, we have the privilege of speaking of a kindhearted, God loving, spirit filled woman! Born in 1957, her life was well lived and full of love and Joy. Mrs. West is the mother of 3 wonderful men, Larry, Pablo, and Carlos (Rico) Smith.  She is the oldest sibling of numerous brothers and sisters to include Lydell and Nathaniel Hicks of Moody, Alabama, and Lovejoy and Thomas family spanning from Indiana, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina.

In 1975, Wyoming gave birth to her oldest son Larry (Copperas Cove, TX).  Shortly thereafter she joined the US Army before meeting her 1st husband Clarence Smith while serving in Ansbach, Germany.  In 1978 the couple welcomed Pablo Smith (Pflugerville, TX) after which the couple moved to Ft. Hood, Tx.  In 1981 the couple brought in the youngest Rico (Pflugerville, TX).  After the birth of Rico, Wyoming began attending the College of Cosmetology where she obtained her license to do hair and started off small, by doing hair out of military housing.

Skipping forward, 1986 became a redefining year for Wyoming. Through divorce she became a single mother but entered the business sector by opening her 1st beauty salon in Killeen, TX.  Although this venture concluded in a failed partnership it led her to opening her own salon independently in Killeen and then moving it to Copperas Cove, where she ran it successfully for over 30 years.  While all these moving pieces were coming together, she also met her best friend, Bobby West and joined him in marriage. They were true buddies and were inseparable until she lost him to cancer.

Although doing hair was her passion, she was blessed with many other talents.  She became very DIY savvy. She was proficient in laying tiles and interior decorating, event planning, cooking and baking.  She was an avid fisher that you could always catch with rods, reels and a tackle box already in the car. She loved being outdoors and taking long walks. On any given day she would walk up to 6 miles to get groceries or just to go!! She was a lover of dogs and she treated them like family. She named the dogs Angel, and they definitely looked out for her. Traveling was another love of hers and she didn't mind driving. She knew the journey was just as important as the destination was, and loved it being near the lake or an ocean.

Among all the great attributes about Mrs. Wyoming, one of the greatest is that she was a God loving woman, strong in her faith and she trusted in her Lord and Savior. Through this connection she started her own Facebook ministry – Mercy Monday.  She was a minister and evangelist. She completed her Sonship classes with Bishop Holcomb of The Christian House of Prayer.

She showed Christ's love in how she treated people. To be loved by her was to be adopted into the family. Many know her by Mama Y and she claimed many daughters and although none blood, she loved them all wholeheartedly. To be welcomed into her home for a delicious meal, great fellowship and a true sense of belonging was her greatest gift.

Even in this time of mourning, if she could leave us with anything it would be her famous words, that she is still "Blessed and highly favored".   Her legacy will live on and her love will continue, as she has touched so many lives and she truly never met a stranger.
