Funeral service for Mrs. Vivian Delois Washington, 72 of Killeen, TX will be held Thursday, August 5, 2021, 1:00 p.m.  at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Burial will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.

Vivian Delois Washington was born on May 20, 1949, in Marshall, Texas to the late Y.D. Chatman and Lessie B. Chatman. She transitioned to her heavenly home on July 24, 2021.

Vivian attended Pemberton High School in Marshall, Texas. After graduation, she attended East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. She later transferred to Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas where she received her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education. She later return to Marshall, Texas and started her teaching career which spanned over several years. She taught at various Elementary and Junior High Schools in Marshall,Texas. She also taught in other school districts in the Central Texas area. She taught various subjects at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, and Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas. Vivian also extended her teaching skills to military soldiers, helping them earn their high school diploma and preparing them for college. She also taught foreign students English as a second language.

On August 1, 1974, Vivian united in holy matrimony to Lawrence H. Washington. Together they raised a beautiful daughter, Erika Washington (Vertilus).

Vivian moved with her husband to Killeen, Texas in 1988. She was a past member of the Church of Christ and a present member of the Churches of God In Christ in east and central Texas. On April 3, 1993, she was consecrated and received her Women's License as a Missionary in the Church of God In Christ, through Texas Northeast Jurisdiction under the late Bishop James Neaul Haynes. She used her credentials to open Zion Temple Church of God In Christ Daycare Center under the leadership of the late Bishop A. LaDell Thomas Sr. She also aided her husband Evanglist Lawerence Washington in the ministry where she was instrumental in a lot of souls being saved, delivered, healed and set free.

Vivian received the Outstanding Young Women of America Award in 1980. She was also involved in the ECRI (Reading Enhanced Core Instruction Program) where she developed and created with groups of teachers to help students who were at risk in reading.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Elder Lawrence H. Washington of Killeen, TX; daughter, Erika T. Vertilus of Killeen, TX; granddaughter, Bianca E. Vertilus of Killeen, TX; brother, Carl Chatman (Linda) of Fort Worth, TX; and a host of neices, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She is preceeded in death by her parents: Y.D. and Lessie B. Chatman; brothers: James Dennis Chatman, Gary E. Chatman, Harold L. Chatman; and sisters: Juanita Jackson and Carolyn L. Clark.
