Obituary

Funeral service for Mrs. Virgie Lee Eckwood, 86 of Killeen, TX will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022, 12:00 p.m. at Greater Vision Community Church in Killeen, TX. Burial with military honors will be held Monday, March 21, 2022, 9:00 a.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 18, 2022 (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX.

A Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Friend, and pillar in her community has elevated from labor to reward. On Sunday, March 6, 2022, the Lord spoke, "Well done my good and faithful servant," and Virgie answered the call.

Virgie was born July 26, 1935, to the late James Jones and Mary Cowans in Wenona Arkansas.  Virgie was loved and cherished by her family.

Virgie was publicly educated through the Omaha Nebraska School system where she graduated from Central High School, the home of the Eagles. After High School, she attended the University of Nebraska, and the University of Kansas. She later attended the University of Buffalo State where she received a master's degree in Sociology.

Virgie showed her love for Christ by accepting him into her heart at an early age. She attended St. Paul Baptist Church in Omaha Nebraska.  After moving to Buffalo NY, she became a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She then moved to Killeen TX with her son, and she became a member of Greater Vision Community Church Killeen TX.

She served her country by jointing the United States Air Force Medical corps serving overseas in Germany and state side at Offutt Air Base, Neb.

She moved to Buffalo NY, in the 1960's. There she worked for the Sisters Hospital and Buffalo State Hospital where she was the Director of the Sociology Department for many years.

Virgie moved to Killeen, TX in the year 2016. She enjoyed her retirement by watching sports, playing cards, going to cookouts, and shopping with her friends.
