Funeral service for Ms. Susie Mea Adaway, 86 of Copperas Cove, TX will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, 12:00 p.m. at Pershing Park Baptist Church in Killeen, TX. Burial will follow the service at the Copperas Cove City Cemetery in Copperas Cove, TX.
Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) at the church.
Susie M. Adaway was born on November 1, 1938, to parents Lizzie B. Campbell and James M. Threat in Memphis, Tennessee.
Susie spent her childhood in Memphis, TN. She accepted Christ at an early age at Lake Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis; she then joined Simmonsville Missionary Baptist under the leadership of the late Pastor H.E. Dubose and later joined Pershing Park Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor D.A. Moye Sr. located in Killeen, Texas.
Susie was married to the late Haven Adaway, Susie had 5 children Eileen, Marlon, Kerry, Tony and Lisa who was raised in this union.
Susie graduated from Douglas High in 1957 and then attended Memphis Area Vocational School of Nursing where she received her Nursing degree. She worked at several hospitals, Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis TN, Holy Family Hospital in Atlanta Georgia and St Joseph Hospital in Lorain Ohio.
Susie faced many challenges in life, but she continued to persevere. She moved to Killeen, TX where she lived with her son and attended church regularly. She was part of the women ministry and Bible study until she couldn't attend anymore. But she faithfully watched church service online or listen at her brother James's church Pastor during a weekly bible study.
Susie pass time was reading her bible and books. She was a night owl and loved to watch TV and talk to anyone who would answer the phone at night. She loved being around her grandkids and looking after them. Susie also loved traveling, Susie, traveled to London to see the birth of her first great grandchild, she also traveled to Germany to visit her daughter Eileen while she was stationed there. Susie was ready to travel anytime someone would offer, especially with her friend Ola and her son, between the both of them she has cover the whole United States.
On July 18, Susie M. Adaway made her transition from earth's pain and suffering to Heaven's Peace and Glory. She will truly be missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Susie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Susie is preceded in death by her parents James M. Threat, Lizzie Campbell, Son -Kerry Threat, Sisters – Earline Bolds, Jearldean Isom, Pearleatha West, and Brothers – Willie Threat, and Michael Campbell.
Susie will forever be loved and cherished by her children – Eileen Threat of Killeen, TX, Marlon Threat (Yolanda) of Copperas Cove, TX, Lisa Turner of Killeen, TX, Tony Threat of North Carolina; 9 Grandchildren – Stephanie (James), Marlon Jr, Joshua, Kristin, Justin (Mona), Jeremy, Quiana, Jacob and Cherelle; 18 Great-Grandchildren - Da'Nyia, Elijah,James, Kashawn, Tre, Brielle, Ezra, Jordyn, Te'anna, Aaliyah, Jeffery, Rico, Keiry, Amaya, Destiny, Le'Asiah, Jazmine and Lilia; Siblings –Dorothy Coleman of Olive Branch, MS, Mary Wallace of Memphis, TN; Beatrice Batts of Memphis, TN, James Threat (Patricia) of Dale City, CA,Ollie Towns of Jamaica, NY, Linda Grandberry of Memphis, TN, Terri Campbell of Memphis, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special friend Ola Pickens.
