Funeral service for Ms. Rita Herbert Bennett 62 of Killeen, TX will be held Friday, June 16, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Burial with military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023, (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.

Rita Bennett, age 62, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Killeen Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility on 4 June 2023. Rita was born on 22 May 1961 to Felipa and Henry Herbert in Quezon City, Philippines. She served as a Logistics Specialist for five years in the United States Marine Corps. Not only was Rita an expert rifleman, but she was also the only female in her platoon. She was Honorably Discharged after earning the rank of Sergeant. Rita was awarded the Rifle Expert Badge, Certificate of Achievement, Good Conduct Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Rita Bennett, in true Filipina fashion, found her calling in nursing and dedicated herself to patient care until retirement in 2023. In retirement, Rita loved social gatherings, helping others, and winning any game she played. She was an avid church goer belonging to the congregation of Grace Christian Center. She loved nothing more than being around family and friends.

She was preceded in death by Felipa Herbert (mother), Henry Herbert Jr. (father), Henry Herbert III (brother), George Herbert (brother), Sherwin Herbert (brother), Margaret Santos (sister), Senen Santos (brother-in-law), and Christopher Herbert (nephew).

Rita Bennett is survived by her three children and four grandchildren: Natasha N. Bennett (daughter, age 36), Marquell M. Bennett (son, age 36), James D. Bennett (son, age 30), Kora J. Boyd (granddaughter, age 4), Aryanna N. Bennett (granddaughter, age 11), Quent M. Bennett (grandson, age 9), and Ezra J. Bennett (grandson, age 2).
