Funeral services for Retired SFC Willie Lee Mackey, 85 of Killeen, TX will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at Christian House of Prayer in Copperas Cove, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, 25, 2022, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX.

Mr. Mackey passed away August 2, 2022, in Fort Hood, TX.

Mr. Willie Lee Mackey was born May 8, 1937, in Orlando, Florida to Benny Mackey and Lucinda Edmonia Mackey. He was the only child.

He departed this world at Darnall Army Community Hospital on August 2, 2022, for his heavenly home to be with the Lord. He had spent a blessed, loving, prayerful evening and night with his forever lasting loving wife Doris.

Willie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Miami, Florida June 8, 1956. Sometime later he attended The American Technological University in Killeen, TX, earning a bachelor's degree.

Willie confessed and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. In his later years he often spoke the words of St. Paul, the Apostle in II Corinthians 5:8 (KJV) "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."

On Friday, June 10, 2022, he rededicated his life to Jesus Christ under the anointing of Roy J. Sephus, Pastor of God's Way Community Church in Killeen, TX. Willie and his wife Doris always prayed together because he knew whatever the situation, God would see them through. Although Willie did not see the completion of his earthly house, I am confident in knowing that he has a new building from God, an eternal house in Heaven not build by human's hands.

Willie was a quiet, peaceful, and respected man. He was humorous, a team player in the workplace, always having a positive attitude, supportive and helped those in need. He loved all sports, especially the Miami Heat and talking about the Dallas Cowboys with Dumas, Wanda and Terry and watching CNN with Doris. Willie also loved growing plants for Doris. He will truly be missed by all.

He entered the Army after high school. His military career spanned over 26 years. He later retired honorably in 1992. While serving his country, he received the following awards: Army Commendation Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Combat Medical Badge; Good Conduct Medal (Bronze, 5 Loops); Meritorious Unit Commendation (w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster); NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 2); National Defense Services Medal; Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 1); Marksman (Pistol); Sharpshooter (Rifle); Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal (w/1 Silver Service Star); Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry; National Defense Medal Good Conduct Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal (Third Award); Vietnam Service Medal; 2 Overseas Bars.

Willie was a great leader and professional during his years in the Army and with Civil Service. He was a member of the American Federation of Government Employee (AFL-CIO) Union Local 2109, in Temple Tx and received numerous awards and achievements. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge where he obtained 32° degree. He was also a Life Member of the VFW Post 9191 Killeen, Texas.

Left to cherish in his memory: his wife Doris Marie Mackey; daughter, Senella Denise Mackey and sister Leona (Mackey)Wheeler; grandson LaRon (Lawanna) Washington; extended family: daughters, LaChelle, Donnie, Julia, and Charlisse (Kori) Newbell, 7 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 3 great grandsons, 1 great granddaughter; a host of cousins: Virginia and Lori amongst other loving, relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his first wife of 44years Jacqueline Nash Mackey, one son, Willie Mackey Jr., parents, Benny and Lucinda Edmonia Sanders; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Oscar and Emma Webb, Uncle Lashay Davis and Aunt Senella Davis.
