Obituary

Funeral service for Retired SFC Willie C. Woodward 75, of Copperas Cove, TX will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, 12:00 noon at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Viewing will be held from10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Woodard passed away August 7, 2023, in Copperas Cove, TX.

Retired SFC Willie Carlos Woodard, known as "Pig" to most, was born in Dublin, Georgia on December 14, 947 to Wesley Clifford Woodard and Ola Mae Woodard. Willie was proceeded in death by his two brothers, Edward Woodard, and Rochelle Woodard; one son, Willie Woodard III; one granddaughter, Brianne Woodard; two sisters, Ossie Mae Jackson, and Evon Jackson; and a special sister-in-law, Vastie N. Griffin.

Willie was educated in Laurens County public school system. Willie was drafted in 1965 and later obtained his GED. Fort Bragg was his first duty station from which he was sent to Vietnam. After his return to the states, he got out of the military and moved to Michigan, where he met Lorine and married after dating for only two weeks. As newlyweds he decided it would be best if he re-enlisted in the military and make a life for them. He would continue for a total of twenty-four years, where he would be stationed in Germany, Oklahoma, and Fort Hood, where he retired from 2-5 Cav in 1995. Willie received various metals and ribbons to include: The Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Metal (5th Award), Army Good Conduct Metal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Vietnam Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation w/Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He is mourned by his wife of almost forty-six years, Lorine, one daughter, Keena Yvette Gooden (Geoffery); sons, Willie Woodard (Cynthia), Eric L. Woodard (Latonia), Kaleb Wesley Woodard; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
