Funeral Service for Retired SGM William Charles Sims, 85, of Copperas Cove, TX will be held Thursday, May 29, 2025, 12:00 p.m. at Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, TX. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2025 (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX.

It is with heavy hearts and sadness that The Sims Family announce the passing of a beloved soul, William Charles Sims. William Charles Sims passed away, peacefully, in his home on May 18th, 2025, around 3:10 am with his faithful wife, Warrine, 63 years by his side. William Charles expired to complications to the illness of dementia.

William Charles Sims was a great son, a brother, a nephew, an uncle, a husband, a father, a grandfather and great grandfather, as well, as a highly loved and admired servant to his family, to his country and to his local community.

William Charles Sims was born in Columbus, Mississippi in 1940 to his mother Lula Dorothy Sims and his father William Tucker. He attended church services as a youth in Madera, CA where he first learned of Jesus Christ at the 2nd Baptist Church there. William Charles would go on to receive Christ as his Lord and Savior in the presence of his loving wife and the presence of his church family at Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, TX where he and his wife Warrine resided together in love and marriage, just before his illness began to set in.

William Charles graduated high school in Madera, Ca. After graduating high school, he was inspired to join the ranks of the military as a young man. He chose to join the US Army and was sent to go and fight in the Vietnam War campaign, like many of his comrades. William Charles would then go on to serve a career lifetime of honorable service to our country. He retired at Ft. Hood in 1987 with 27 years and 11 months of honorable active-duty service in his country. He reached the highest rank an enlisted member could obtain at the rank of E-9 as a Major Combat Engineer Senior Sergeant.

William Charles Sims military decoration's medal, badges and campaign ribbons include the following: Soldier's Medal/Bronze Star Medal/Purple Heart/Meritorious Service Medal/Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster/Army good Conduct Medal ( Silver, 3 loops), National Defense Service Medal/ Vietnam Service Medal (w/1 Silver Service Star)/ NCO Professional Development Ribbon/ Army Service Ribbon/Overseas Service Ribbon/ Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation/ Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation (2nd Award)/ Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and his Marksman Badge, all adorned on his final dress uniform for his home going celebration.

William Charles Sims later worked as a Civil Service employee with the Armed Forces at Ft. Hood in different capacities until he finally retired from civil service employment in 2012.

Our beloved Father and husband are survived by his wife of 63 years, Warrine Sims. William Charles has 3 Sons and 1 daughter. Kenneth Reed (Mother, Jennie Reed) from Sacramento, CA. His 2 sons and only daughter are Charles L resides in AZ; Chuck L resides in TX and Cassandra L. Gurch resides in UT.

The surviving grandchildren to William and Warrine Sims are from the oldest to the youngest; Chuck L., Colton L, Latoya A, Jeffrey A., Brandon C, Briana C, Jessica A, Jason M, Alexis J and Chermane L. The surviving great grandchildren are from oldest to youngest: Serenity, Kyra, Mason, Collin, Kailee, Kacie, Kaila, Autumn, Amelia and Ziya.

The preceding family members are Lula Dorothy Fuller, Emma L. Sims, General Sims, Jim Sims and William Tucker (Father).

As we gather to celebrate their life, we are reminded of the profound impact they had on everyone fortunate enough to cross their path. Though their absence is deeply felt, their spirit will forever remain a part of us, living on in the memories we hold dear.

He is survived by loved ones, who will carry forward his legacy of love, compassion, and joy.

In William Charles Sims honor, let us strive to emulate the kindness and generosity that was his hallmark, spreading his light in a world that needs it now more than ever.

Farewell, Sgt. Major Sims. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May your soul rest in eternal peace.
