Funeral services for Retired MSG Uris Reid, Sr., 87, of Killeen, Texas will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2021, 1:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Reid passed away February 14, 2021, in Killeen, TX. He was born July 25, 1932 in New Orleans, LA.
Retired MSG Uris Reid Sr., was born in July 25, 1932 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the youngest son of Thomas Reid and Beatrice Douglas. He grew up in New Orleans Parish, Louisiana.
As a young man Uris joined the United States Army on April 14, 1950. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas; during which time he met his sweetheart Hollis Marie Jones in Cameron, Texas.
Uris was stationed at Fort Hood Texas during the majority of his tour of duty. He served and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict Era, Vietnam Era and during Peacetime. He received many awards while serving including two purple hearts. He retired from the military in December 1970.
Uris and Hollis were married for sixty-six years and together had a long, satisfying and loving life together raising nine children together in Killeen, Texas.
After retiring from the military Uris made many contributions as a businessman in the Killeen Texas area. He was the first Black Manager of any car dealership in Killeen beginning in the 1970's. He worked at Centroplex Ford for over twenty years and retired. Uris was also the first Black Manager of the Central Texas College Bookstore in the 1980's.
Uris was dearly loved by his family and friends. He was the pillar of his family's strength and loved by many in the community.
Uris was blessed by the Lord and God allowed him to live a long and productive life. Even while being affiliated with many health problems, the Lord held a protective hand over him allowing him to live for eighty-eight and seven months.
Uris is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Reid and Beatrice Douglas Johnson-Peterson; His brother, Odis Johnson; sister-in-law Eva Carpenter Johnson; his sisters, Mammie Douglas and Adrienne Reid-Boston all living in Louisiana at the time of their death. Great grandson Uris Patrick Reid-Scott IV.
Uris is survived by his faithful and dedicated wife Hollis Marie (Jones) Reid Five sons- Uris Reid Jr (Christy) of Moore, Oklahoma; Odis Reid of Killeen, Texas; Renwick Reid of Killeen, Texas; Christopher Reid (Charlene) of Lampasas, Texas; Leonard Reid of Washington, D.C.; Four daughters- Rita Reid Dukes of Killeen, Texas;
Ramona Reid Owens of Killeen, Texas; Christine Reid of Killeen, Texas and Yolanda Reid of Killeen, Texas.
Grandchildren- Uris Patrick Reid III, Urissa Cooper (Stephen), Carnel Bryant, Joan Bryant (Richard), Ebony Bradley, Carolyn Robbins (Richard), Lauren Ganderra (Alberto), Lindsey Curtis (Ted), Christopher Reid, Roderick Reid, Renwick Reid, Nyla, Dukes, Shannon Reid, Shyla Reid, Hasson Richie Owens and Nioka Richie Owens.
Great grandchildren- Kalob Owens, Jasir Bradley, Deacon Harris, Dylan Harris, Theodore Curtis III, Travis Curtis, Leah Curtis, Henry Ganderra, Zarah Bryant.
