Roswell Ray, Jr., lovingly known as "Ray," was born on October 25, 1955, to Roswell Ray, Sr., and Jean E. Ray, whom both preceded him in death. Ray was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised in the Cherry Hill and Forest Park Communities. Ray graduated from Forest Park Senior High School in 1975, joined the United States Army in 1975, and was stationed in California.  Ray's love story with his wife, Kathy, was a beautiful journey that began in 1986, and they united in marriage on February 15, 1990. They had their son Sydarya from their union and raised their children Shanteedra, Sancedric, Shoquel, and their special baby Z'uri together. Ray proudly served in the United States (U.S.) Army and retired after 22 years of service as a Sergeant First Class in 2002. During his service in the U.S. Army, Ray was stationed in California, Korea, South Carolina, Fort Polk, Louisiana where he met his beloved wife Kathy, and Killeen, TX, where he remained after retirement. Ray began his second career working for Darnell Army Hospital in the Materials Management department for 19 years and retired in 2024.

Ray's unwavering support for his beloved Baltimore Ravens football team and Baltimore Orioles baseball team is a testament to his undying loyalty and passion for sports. Ray's love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. His laughter and tone were always filled with warmth and affection, especially when he was with his wife and family. Ray found joy in exploring new places, fishing, grilling, caring for his dogs before their passing, detailing and showing off his cars, and riding his motorcycle and trike.

Roswell Ray, Jr. closed his eyes and took his last breath on Sunday, August 4, 2024. Ray leaves to mourn his death, his wife of 34 years, Kathy Ray; children, Shanteedra Williams, Sancedric Cade, Shoquel Cade, Sydarya Ray, Sr., and Z'uri Cade; grandchildren, Cequoya Cade, Melquan Williams, Shy'asia Williams, Devin Williams, Derajae Otiz, Decorian Cade, Ziare Cade, Zriah Cade, Justice Cade, Noonie Cade, Lashaya Cade, Shabraya Cade, Sydarya Ray, Jr. (Toot), Symir Ray (Ros), Nydiah Ray, and 15 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Sharon Meads, Karen Carter, Pamela Colleton, Linda Jennings, and Michael Ray; in-laws, Larry (Betty) Smith, Bettie Johnson, Shirley (Roger) Cooper, James Meads, Keith Carter, Arnold Colleton, and Wanda Ray; aunt and uncle Veronica and Earl Philllips; great-great aunt, Herlda Senhouse; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Although your hearts may be broken, there's no need to weep for me. I'm in a beautiful place now, where I'm happy and so carefree. I had to go, but I've left behind good memories to comfort you. Concentrate on our best times and try not to feel so blue. For one day, we'll be together again to talk and laugh. So, try to lift your heads now and dare to set grief aside because I'll be waiting here for you to welcome you to heaven, where I now reside.
