Funeral service for Retired SSG Robert T. Henderson, 81 of Kempner, TX will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at Anderson Chapel AME Church in Killeen, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2022 (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) at Anderson Chapel AME Church in Killeen, TX.

Robert Thomas Henderson Sr. age 81, known to many as RT, Buddy, Dad, Hendo, Pop-Pop, Papa, and Uncle, was the son of the late Robert Lee Henderson and Emma Jane McCorey Henderson, born March 10, 1941, in Rowan County, NC. On Saturday, September 10, 2022, Robert received his call to Glory and entered into his eternal rest.

Robert was a 1956 graduate of Dunbar High School in East Spencer, NC. Upon graduating, he joined the United States Army. SSG Henderson served in the military for 21 years. He was stationed overseas for most of his military career, serving in Germany, Korea, Vietnam, and Ft. Hood, TX.  Robert volunteer to serve in the Vietnam War twice. Among the awards received for his service were the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w Silver Service star, 1 Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Expert Rifle Badge.

Upon retiring from the military, Robert was employed with the Veterans Affairs Hospital, Darnell Army Community Hospital, and the United States Postal Service. Robert was dedicated to serve when it came to his beloved Masonic Lodge, Jno G. Lewis #622, (PHA) where he held the highest degree of masonry, the 33rd degree. He was also a member of Nubian Temple #191, where he served and freely donated his time. He was a lover of sports, especially the LA Dodgers, Boston Celtics, and Dallas Cowboys.

On January 8, 1971, Robert married the love of his life, Katherine Henderson and for 51 years they remained dedicated to one another, upholding their vows. In additional to being a loving husband, Robert took the utmost pride in being the father to his 6 children; 4 sons Rodney, Kevin, Robert, and Thomas, and 2 daughters La-Tonya and DeAnn.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, son Rodney E Henderson, sister Isabelle M. Greene and brother Alfred "June" Henderson.

Those who survive to cherish, love and celebrate his Spirit are his wife Katherine Henderson of the home, son Thomas Henderson of Austin, TX; daughter DeAnn Henderson of Harker Heights, TX; son Ronald Henderson of Lancaster, SC; son Robert T. Henderson Jr. (Pamela) of Salisbury, NC and daughter,  Prophetess La-Tonya Henderson Richardson of Charlotte, NC; a special niece Gail George (Michael); grandchildren Jeremiah Anderson of Harker Heights, TX; Ja'Quice D. Thompson; Brandonn J. McClure; DesMon R. Thompson of Charlotte, NC; April McDowell (Christopher) of Rock Hill, SC; Marrisa, Emily, Chinia, and Brittany all of Salisbury NC; Katara Henderson of Boston, MA; Omar Robertson (Kia) of Greensboro, NC; Greg Yeldell (Jessica) of Houston, TX; Robbie Henderson of Albemarle, NC; one great nephew Jeffery Withers of Pine Hurst, NC; one great niece Emily; three great-great nieces of Arkansas, and a host of other family and friend.
