Funeral service for Retired SGM Robert Lee Stinson, Sr., 87 of Killeen, TX will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021, 12:00 p.m. at Christian House of Prayer in Copperas Cove, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) at the church.
Mr. Stinson passed away October 13, 2021 in Killeen, TX.
Retired SGM Robert Lee Stinson Sr. was born on January 26, 1934, to Frank and Esther Stinson. Robert was born in Davidson, North Carolina. Shortly after graduating from high school, Robert joined the military in 1955. Three years later he met and married Rosetta Holden on January 5, 1958, and from their union came five children. The two were married for 63 years. He served in Vietnam twice, as well as in Korea. He earned many metals, honors, and accommodations, including a Purple Heart. Robert would continue to rise in rank with hard work and dedication, ending his career as a proud Sergeant Major.
Robert was saved at an early age. He was a member of Comanche Chapel in Fort Hood, TX and later transferred his membership to Christian House of Prayer. Robert and Rosetta were faithful members and enjoyed worshipping every Sunday. He was a humble man of determination, devotion, and diligence. Robert was known to be someone who loved the Lord, his family, and playing golf. He was the Treasurer and Tournament Director for the Central Texas Players Golf Association. While being a part of this organization, he also made a great impact on the community.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Esther Stinson; his two brothers Charles Alexander and Willie Bernard Stinson; sisters Annie Erving, Jennie Stinson, and Carrie Faye Stinson.
Left to cherish his love and memories are his wife, Rosetta Stinson of Killeen ,TX ; five children, Joseph R. Stinson (Delores) of Pflugerville, TX, Verna D. Stinson of Pflugerville, TX, Esther Renee Walker (Derrick) of Pflugerville, TX, Robert L. Stinson Jr. (Shon) of Lancaster, TX, and Lisa D. Stinson of Haslet, TX; one sister, Frankie Eison (James) of Charlotte, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Brit'ny N. Stinson, Damon R. Stinson, Daniel R. Stewart, Dominic R. Stewart, Robert L. Stinson III, and Brandon Brown; two great-grandchildren, Kinley Rose Petitt and Rashawn Stewart; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, including niece Joyce Ballard and close family friend Althea Owens.
