Richard D. Thomas Jr. was born on December 17, 1951, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He lived his life in the service of others, as we have been tasked to do (Galatians 5:13). For 60 plus years, he served God and others, including twenty years in the US Army. Even in his retirement he was up early on Wednesday morning, feeding the homeless, and learning at Charis Bible School. Mr. Thomas passed away December 26, 2024, in Temple, TX.
To the community, Richard was a humble servant, rarely in the spotlight, serving the Lord and doing whatever was needed and required. He served in the Reach Out and Touch ministry at Christian House of Prayer, working at local nursing homes. At Rivers of Living Water, he worked in the Outreach Ministry, feeding the homeless (James 1:22).
To his family, he was the steadfast foundation, his strength, wisdom, and love shaped all of us. Over the years, Richard gave his children and grandchildren a great many gifts, but looking back the best and most meaningful of those were the intangibles: The gift of faith and relationship with God.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Arnella Thomas, his brother, Charles Thomas, and his sister, Gwendolyn Hunt. He is survived by his children, Rose Thomas-Bonet and Richard Thomas III, his grandchildren, Mei Li, Marisela, Deion, and Xavier, his sisters, Cheryl Thomas-Fairley and Rose Thomas- Stoddard (John), his brother, Winston Thomas, his nieces Phyllis Hunt and Phelicia Hunt Strickland (Henry), his nephew Phillip Hunt (Dacia) and his cousins David Raliegh, Glenn Raleigh, and Ramona Raleigh.
