Memorial service for Retired SSG Percy Lee Petty Jr., 63 of Killeen, TX will be held Friday, December 20, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Percy Lee Petty age 63 transitioned to eternal rest on December 2, 2024, at Advent Health Hospital in Killeen, Texas. He was born to the late Percy Lee Petty Sr., and Jacqueline Lanese McIver Petty on April 9, 1961, in Sanford, North Carolina. Mr. Petty passed away December 2, 2024, in Killeen, TX.

At a young age, Percy joined the Tempting Congregation Church in Sanford, NC. He went to W.B. Wicker in Sanford, NC. Percy played baseball at a young age. He played high school basketball for Lee Senior High School in Sanford, NC where he graduated from class of 1979. Percy worked at Burger King, Siemens-Allis and GKN. He loved working at the Car Wash.

Percy loved being around his dad and loved his mom so much. Percy and his sister Jackie were like a tag team, they supported each other in sports and school growing up. He Loved to hang out with his cousins. He was always talking about hanging out with Derrick Fox, Lawrence Cox and Chico Fox and could not wait to go back to Sanford to see them. He loved to watch the family Petty softball team girls play. He loved to go to kids' football games and take his kids swimming on the army base and get junk food for the kids or take them to the junk yard.

Percy joined the United State Army and served his country proudly for 22 years. He was an army mechanic and served overseas during his service. He met his wife Shelley Criswell while they were both stationed in Killeen, TX. He attended college at Central Texas College in Killeen, TX. He was a Automotive Technician, Automotive Tune-up Specialist where he used his skills to become the manager at Patriot Buick GMC in Killeen, TX.

Percy was a hardworking man; he loved providing for his family. He loved working on family and friends' automobiles. He had a love for cars and loved driving his cars and trucks around town or getting on his CT70 Honda Motorcycle. If you knew Percy Petty you knew he was a huge UNC fan and loved Bruce Lee and Micheal Jordan. His love for basketball was immense. He loved playing his heart out on the court. He also loved shopping, camping in the backyard, having family cookouts, dancing at the Shangrala, and he loved going to the pool hall to play pool. If you knew Percy you knew he did not like cheese or onion on anything, not even his hamburger.

Percy was known by several nicknames such as "Boy" and "P-Funk". Percy was a loving person to everyone he encountered. He loved watching drag races, his favorite race car driver was Dale Earnhardt Sr. He could often be found sitting outside, laughing, and talking junk while enjoying his friends and telling stories. Percy always had a big smile on his face and was always willing to help anyone. He loved taking long drives and blasting his music, especially Micheal Jackson.

He is survived by: his wife of 27 years, Shelley Criswell Petty; two sons, Isiah Petty, Malik Criswell; two daughters, Shellise Petty of Killeen, TX, and JaLeesha Petty of Fayetteville, NC; sister, Jackie Petty of Sanford, NC; nieces, Jackie Cameron (Maurice) of Greensboro, NC; Mariel Cook (Antonio) of Hampton, VA, Amber and Brook Schippers of Des Moines, IA, Abigail Godfrey of Winston-Salem, NC; nephews, Dennis (Cecelia) of Winston-Salem, NC, Joshua Schippers; cousins from Atlantic City, NJ the Shepherd Family, cousins and aunts and uncle of Sanford, NC; special cousin Chad Gales (Shameka) of Raleigh, NC; great nieces and nephews, Maurice Cameron Jr. and Natalya Cameron of Greensboro, NC.
