Funeral services for Retired SFC Millard Odell Wright 90, of Killeen, Texas will be held Monday, February 8, 2021, 12:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas. Burial with military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.

Mr. Wright passed away January 31, 2021, in Belton, Texas.

Millard Odell Wright was born October 21, 1930 in Centre, Alabama to Ross and Susie Almon Wright. He grew up with one brother, Jess, and three sisters, Rosie Lee, Pernell and Melie who all preceded him in death.

Always seeking to improve himself, Millard entered the United States Army on April 3 ^rd , 1951. Throughout his military tenure, Millard served in the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany, Korea, Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Belvoir, Virginia and Fort McClellan, Alabama.

During his distinguished military career, Millard was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal 5 ^th Award, National Defense Service Medal (1 ^st OLC), Army Occupation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Known for his commitment to excellence and strong sense of discipline, Millard served for over 20 years before retiring in September 1973 with an honorable discharge.

Not being a person who was content with sitting idly by, Millard's story did not end there. Instead, he sought new challenges. He found his next challenge by working for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center, and Engineering and Housing at Fort Hood. His expertise and unparalleled work ethic resulted in Millard receiving several Department of the Army Certificates of Service as a civilian employee.

With an ambition that he possessed, Millard went on to earn his Associates Degree in Applied Science from Central Texas College in 1983. He also received the Texas State Plumbing License (Journeyman Plumber) in 1986.

Millard made his home in the Killeen area for over 50 years.  During this time, he was a member of the NAACP and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He graduated from the Police Citizen Academy and served as Citizens on Patrol. A beloved community member, he was known for his strong faith, work ethics, and generous heart. He was often viewed as an example of what most men hope to be. Millard was a member of the Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee, member of the Brotherhood, Financial Clerk and as Coordinator of Sunday Morning Breakfast Committee. He also served as a member of the Good Hope Western General Association of Texas.

Millard was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan, but his true purpose and calling was sharing his faith in God and helping others.  He was quick to provide words of encouragement and share biblical verses to those who found themselves in despair.

Millard leaves behind a true legacy for others to follow.  He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Mary E. Wright, of Killeen; son William K. Wright of Cave Springs, Georgia; daughters Marilyn Fitzgerald of Arlington, Texas; Bernadette Wright Nutall and Michelle Wright of Dallas, Texas, two son in-laws, Kenneth Fitzgerald and Derrick Nutall, five grandchildren Michael (Floydine) Fitzgerald, Rebecca Jeanette, and Lisa Nicole Fitzgerald, Olivia and Lauren Nutall, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
