Funeral service for Retired SFC Michael Sherrod Sorrell, 60 of Killeen, TX will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2022, 12:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
Mr. Sorrell passed away August 7, 2022, in Killeen, TX. He was born July 18, 1962, in Albany, GA.
Michael Sherrod Sorrell was born August 7, 1962, to the late David and Gertrude Sorrell in Albany, GA.
Michael received his formal education in the Albany School District and graduated from Dougherty High School in Albany, GA. Upon graduation Michael joined the United State Army on August 5, 1980. He served his country for 21 years and received an honorable discharge on April 30, 2002. After retirement he decided to stay in Killeen, TX.
He was lastly employed with Durcon in Tyler, TX. Michael married the love of his life Naomi L. Richardson formally of Akron, Ohio, on June 6, 2013.
Michael was a member of the Order of International Free and Accepted Mason, Order of the Eastern Star, Queen of the South, Subline Prince of the Royal Secret, 32 (degrees), Shriners and Holy Royal Arch Masons.
Michael had a warm smile, a soft voice, and was friendly. He never met a stranger he could not strike up a conversation with. Michael enjoyed family life and spending time with his wife, grandchildren and many adopted family members which brought him great joy. He enjoyed fishing, camping, grilling, and refereeing a variety of youth sports.
Michael departed this life for his eternal rest on Sunday August 7, 2022. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 9 years, Naomi Sorrell; daughter, Minita (Darian) Brinkly of Acworth, GA; two stepchildren, Gabrielle Mills of Killeen, TX, and Nathone Richardson of Houston, TX; two granddaughters, Kelsea Cole of Acworth, GA, and Chloe Richardson of Houston, TX; two grandsons Noah and Kai Richardson both of Houston, TX; four sisters, Cheryl (Tommy) Knight-Long of Ellerslie, GA, Linda Sorrell of Columbus, GA, Berderia (Garry) Fuller of Dallas, GA, and Tara Sorrell of Albany, GA; one brother, David Sorrell, Jr. of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother James Toomer.
Michael will be dearly missed but forever in our memories.
