Funeral service for Retired SSG Mary Juanita Pitre, 76 of Copperas Cove, TX will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022 (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pitre passed away January 2, 2022, in Copperas Cove, TX. She was born July 12, 1945, in Eunice, LA.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Hosea and Doliska Pitre; two sisters, Priscilla Guillory, and Ethel Broussard; one brother, Calvin Pitre; and two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Pitre and Hilda Pitre. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Tomeekha Pitre and Tiffany Pitre Simmons; three brothers, Anthony (Jim) Pitre, Calton Pitre, and John (Glenda) Pitre; two sisters, Charleta Pitre (Wilbert Bruno), and Paulette (Carl) Moore; one godson, Travis Pitre; two goddaughters, Stephanie Mickens, and Destiny Frank; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and former co-workers.

SSG Mary J. Pitre served in the United States Army in 1980 to 1995 with most of her time concentrated as a Nuclear Biological Chemical Defense Specialist. We cannot forget to share that she was also an expert marksman and sharpshooter. Her journey did not stop there, she then served another 15 years at the Veterans Hospital in Temple, TX. During active duty and retirement, she proudly served in multiple organizations such as: The Disabled American Veterans Chapter NOMAD #52 (Lifetime Member), American Legion Post 582 (Lifetime Member), Veterans of Foreign War Post 3393 (Lifetime Member), Military Order of The Moose Lodge 2029 (Dual Member), and the Women's Army Corp.

Mary Juanita Pitre (known as Geneva to her family), moved to the beat of her own drum, she lived a life full of amazing experiences. She protected those who were unable to protect themselves. She was known to curse you out while cooking and serving you a good nourishing plate of food at the same time. She is that WOMAN people who knew her will never forget. She has grit and the superpower required to do any and everything she desired to do. She will be greatly missed, but those who lobe her know that she is and will always be with us.
