Funeral services for Retired MAJ Malcolm Elliott Hess Sr., 88 of Kempner, Texas will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2022, 12:00 p.m. at Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, Texas. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) at the church.

Malcolm Elliott Hess, Sr, a son of Kantaeulla Hess and Jessie Young was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 10, 1934, and raised in Marrero, Louisiana.  He humbly bowed to God's will and entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 8, 2022.

He graduated from the LB Landry High School in New Orleans.  He attended Dillard University studying Philosophy and Mathematics receiving a BA degree. He then served four years in the United States Air Force. He attended Tulane University and received a master's degree in Social Work.  He then attended the Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans and received a Bachelor of Divinity Degree.  After that he pursued a PhD in Philosophy from Tulane University.  He received a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Union Baptist Seminary in New Orleans.  He was a member of the KAPPA ALHA PSI Fraternity.

Malcolm was united in holy matrimony to Alma Jean Hess on December 28.1962 and to that union five children were born.  Two preceded him in death.

He served as a Minister at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Marrero, Louisiana and as the Pastor of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Marrero, Louisiana for 3 years.  He united with Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, Texas on October 13, 2005, and served as an active minister.

Malcolm taught at the Southern University Union Seminary, New, Orleans for two years and at the St. Joseph Worker Catholic School for two years in Marrero, Louisiana.  After which he joined the U. S. Army as a Chaplain.  His military education included the Chaplain Officer Basic Course, Chaplain Officer Advanced Course, Combat Arms and Service Staff School, Pastoral Coordination, and the Chaplain Training Manager Course. During his career in the military, he received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. He served for 24 years before retiring as a Major receiving an honorable discharge.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kantaeulla Hess and Jessie Young, son, Kevin T. Hess, daughter, Daphne Jean Hess and brother, Kenneth Young.

Left to cherish loving memories are his wife, Alma Jean Hess, sons, Marcus C. Hess, Japan, Malcolm E. Hess, Jr. (Rosa), Austin, Texas, and Mustafa Kemal Hess (Pamela), Round Rock, Texas, brothers Donald R. Hess (Karen), New Orleans, Louisiana and William Young, New Orleans, Louisiana, sisters, Haleemon Z. Hatch (Aaron), North Carolina, Cynthia A. Hess, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Ruth L. Hiner (Curtis), San Antonio, Texas.  He was loved and will be missed by his grandchildren, relatives, church family and friends.
