Funeral service for Retired SFC Lucille Roane, 60 of Harker Heights, TX will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Greater Vision Community Church in Killeen, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Viewing will be held from (10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) prior to the service at the church.

Lucille Harmon was born January 3, 1963, in Macon, Mississippi to the late Earvin Harmon Sr and Marie Harmon. She was called home to be with the Lord September 13, 2023. She attended and graduated from Noxubee County High School in May 1980. She met and married McKinley Roane, Sr and from this union they were blessed with two children Amanda and Brandon.

At the age of 17, Lucille enlisted in the United States Army. She proudly served our Nation and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. She served in Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield from August 1990 to March 1991. She was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Achievement Medal (5th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 2, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Kuwait Liberation Medal and Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar.

She graduated from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor with a bachelor's degree in social work. She went on to earn a master's degree in social work from Baylor University and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Through her service as a Social Worker, she was employed with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) advocating for Veterans and their families for more than 10 years.

While employed at the VA, she was inspired to author a book, "Healing Military Wounds", A Veteran's Self-Help Guide to Overcoming Past Trauma. She also founded Veteran Organizations, "Honor in Truth" and "Helping Our Patriots Evolve" to assist Veterans and their families tell their story, pursue disability entitlements, and receive the compensation they so richly deserved.

Lucille became a member of Greater Vision Community Church in 2019. She loved and looked forward to the praise and worship services on Sunday mornings. She admired Pastor Reynolds' passion for the youth and Greater Vision's service to the community. For this reason, Greater Vision Community Church became her church home.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents Earvin Harmon Sr and Marie Harmon. She is survived by her husband, McKinley Roane, Sr, daughters Amanda, and Kim (Aaron, Antonio); her sons, Brandon (Atlas), and McKinley Jr. Lucille is also survived by her nine siblings: Earnestine George, Ruby Harmon, Thelma Lemms, Earvin Harmon, Jr., Charlie Harmon, Patricia Harmon, Julie Coleman, Earnest Harmon, Jr., and Aretha Harmon-Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
