Funeral service for Retired SSG Joy Annette Mitchell 67 of Copperas Cove, TX will be held Monday, January 8, 2023, 12:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
Viewing will be held two hour prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, and daughter Joy Annette Mitchell, who passed away on December 25, 2023, at the age of 68.
Born on January 1st, in Hempstead New York, grew up in Long Island City and later moved to Harlem. She went on to attend Lehman College where she received her bachelor's degree prior to joining the Army. Throughout her Army career, she was known for her hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others as a Medic nurse. After retiring from the Army Joy earned a master's degree in Mental health counseling.
Joy loved to throw New Year's parties for her birthday with friends and family, good food and music. She was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges she was facing in her personal life.
Joy was a kind and generous soul, always putting others needs before her own. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her, and she will be remembered for her infectious smile and warm personality.
Joy is survived by her Mother Durga Gaffney, late father Walter Benjamin Gaffney, brothers Darryl and Barry, loving husband William, her children, Monique, Kevin, Alisha and Roger and her grandchildren, Gabrielle, Timmothy, Naomi, Karter and many more family members .Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. In the words of Joy "Combat strong combat medic"
