Funeral service for Retired Joe Louis Moore, 85 of Killeen, TX will be held Monday, November 29, 2021,  1:00 p.m. at Anderson Chapel AME Church in Killeen, TX. Burial with military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) at the church.

1936 – 2021 - A chapter completed, a page turned, a life well lived, a rest well earned...

Joe Louis Moore, 85, of Killeen, Texas, was called to join The Ancestors on Tuesday, November 10, 2021. He was hospitalized at the Veterans Hospital in Waco, Texas at the time of his transition.

Born April 30, 1936, in Shuler, Arkansas, Joe Moore was the seventh child and fourth son of Jessie Mae Edwards Moore-Cornwell and Pearce James Moore.  "Sunny", as he was affectionately called, graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in El Dorado, Arkansas.   He was married to the late Mary Josephine Gaither, and to their union was born a loving daughter, Gay Lynn Fields.

Joe Louis Moore served his country honorably while enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at multiple military bases world-wide and earned many awards and decorations throughout his 20-year career.  Following his retirement from the military he worked as an instructor on Fort Hood for over 10 years and continued his education receiving several skill certifications.

Joe was a shining example for his family, encouraging all to set high goals and to work hard to reach them. Observing his superior military achievements, and his natural mechanical, analytical and artistic abilities instilled in his nieces and nephews a great work ethic. He demonstrated how important it is to love and support each other, to live by The Golden Rule, to have integrity and above all things to love The LORD.

Joe loved and proudly served as a dedicated member of Anderson Chapel AME Church in Killeen, where he served in various capacities.

Joe Moore enjoyed his large extended family, telling jokes, fishing, boating, upholstering, playing bid whist and dominoes, canning, carpentry, cooking, traveling, and gardening. He was loved and revered for his gentle ways, kind eyes, spoken encouragements and loving hugs which were showered on his host of adoring nieces and nephews. He was attentive and loving to them all.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Gay Lynn Fields; grandson, Clifford Lee (Karen) Fields II (Karen); great-grandchildren, Jolie Fields and Jaylee Fields; sisters, Emma D. (Arthur) Moore-Boone, Betty Ruth (Dempsey) Moore-Hogan and Mildred Jean (Larry, Sr.) Moore-Jacobs; and sister-in-law, Theresa Phillips-Moore.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Josephine Gaither-Moore; sister, Velma Lee (Marshall) Moore – Robinson; brothers Nilon (Annie Dell Snowden) Moore, James Wade (Ollie Rae Robinson) Moore, and Horace (Theresa) Moore.
