Funeral services for Retired SFC Jessie D. Nelson 80, of Killeen, Texas will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, 1:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas. Burial will full military honors will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 21, 2021, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas.
Mr. Nelson passed away June 8, 2021, in Killeen.
Jessie D. Nelson was born March 18, 1941, to parents, Othella and Lillian Nelson in Downsville, LA.
After graduation, Jessie enlisted in the United States Army and served for over 20 years. He served in the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge. His awards, medals, and ribbons include the Purple Heart Award.
Jessie was a past member of Reed Memorial Church of God in Christ in Temple, TX. He was a present member of Christian House of Prayer in Killeen, TX, where he served on the CHOP Usher and Greeters Ministry and was part of the Rhema Choir for nine years.
After his military career, Jessie was employed with the Killeen Independent School District, Nelson's Economy Bicycles for ten years, Toys R Us for three years, Belton Henly Health Care, where he worked as an assembly personnel for one year, and Assembly Health Care, where he worked until his final retirement in 2006.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Lillian and Othella Nelson; wife, Dorothy J. Nelson; sons, Patrick Nelson, Robert Nelson, and Terry Nelson; brothers, Robert Leo Nelson, Frankie D. Nelson, Bobby James Nelson, Roger Nelson, and Fred Nelson; sisters, Rutha Lee (Nelson) Burks, Rosetta (Nelson) Anding, and Kathleen Nelson; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Left to cherish his memory: son, Christopher B. Sanderson (Angela) of Houston, TX; daughters, Yolanda M. Williams (Kenneth D.) of Killeen, TX, and LaShonda M. Nelson of Killeen, TX; brother, Elmo J. Nelson of Killeen, TX; sisters, Evelyn Harris of Monroe, LA, and Mary Ann Copper (James) of Monroe, LA; former wife, LaVonda W. Bobbit-Nelson of Killeen, TX; sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
