Funeral service for MSG (Ret) James H. Hunter, 68 of Killeen, TX will be held Friday, December 6, 2024, 1:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. A private reception will be held immediately after.

Mr. James H. Hunter Sr., a proud retired Master Sergeant of the United States Army, passed away on 18 November 2024, leaving behind a legacy of honor, service, and love. Born on 17 August 1956, in Eufala, Alabama, James grew up with a strong sense of duty and a desire to serve others, which led him to enlist in the Army and earn numerous accolades during his tenure.
Beyond his military career, James built a fulfilling life. He met and married Dayra Hunter before parting ways as good friends. They raised 3 children and cherished their role as grandparents to 5 grandchildren. A devoted family member, James was always a source of strength and wisdom for those who loved him.
James was a beloved figure in the community, known for his dedication to improving the lives of those around him. Whether organizing local fundraisers, mentoring youth, volunteering, or showing everyone what a good time looks like, James approached every task with kindness, enthusiasm, and a genuine desire to make a difference. His warm smile, and generous heart earned him the respect and admiration of friends and strangers alike. James's legacy is one of unity, service, and hope, and he will be profoundly missed by the many lives he touched.
He will be missed by his loving children, Natalie Castille (Keith), Diandra Hunter, James Hunter Jr. (Kristen); grandchildren Sierra, Jordan, Adrianna, Carter, Eli; sisters, Nora Wallace, and Catherine Smith; brother: Benjamin Hunter; brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends.
James was predeceased by his father, Hugie Hunter; mother, Mattie Belle Hunter; brothers, Herbert Hunter, and Warren Hunter.
