Funeral service for Retired SFC Herman Garcia Lawson, 68 of Killeen, TX will be held Friday, November 22, 2024, 1:00 p.m. at Greater Vision Community Church in Killeen, TX.  Burial with Full Military Honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.) at the church.

Herman Garcia Lawson, "Bird Zetty" was born to John and Dolores Lawson on March 9, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan.  He received his formal education from the Detroit Public Schools System and graduated from Pershing High School. He enjoyed music and played the trumpet in the Pershing High School Marching Band. Shortly, after High School graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Saundra in 1984.

After marriage, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.  Herman and his family lived in various places throughout his military career.  His final move was to Killeen, Texas, where he retired as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) from Fort Hood, Texas in 2005. In retirement, "Bird" worked for Engineering Support Personnel Inc. (ESP), as a contractor for many years and was also self-employed in his own lawn care business.

He enjoyed the finer things in life like getting dressed up in his "Sunday Best" and riding in his Cadillac.  Other things that were a passion of "Bird" were fishing, talking to neighbors, sitting on the porch drinking coffee and eating donuts, riding horses, attending masonic events and spending time with his grandkids.

"Bird Zetty" was a joyful, selfless, caring man who always looked out for others and was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys Fan.  He was always willing to lend out his hand with a loving spirit and displayed a smile that would brighten up a whole room. "Bird Zetty" had those squinty eyes and loved to dance whether he displayed rhythm or not - but you would not tell him otherwise. He made friends everywhere he would go and would leave a lasting impression on those around him.

Herman G. Lawson was a member of Greater Vision Community Church, Killeen, TX. and a member of the ST. James Masonic Lodge #71 in Temple, Texas.

His presence will be sadly missed but, we all give thanks to GOD for allowing us the opportunity to benefit from "Bird's" humility and reassuring presence.  He was proceeded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Saundra, his sister, Victoria Clark, brother Ricardo Lawson and mother- in- law, Jeannette Lofton.

Bro. Lawson departed this life on November 11, 2024, in Round Rock, Texas.   He leaves to cherish memories of him: a daughter, Kashell Lofton, a son: Antoine Lawson and two wonderful grandsons: Terrence "TJ" and Jayden "Poopie". plus, a host of other relatives and friends.
