Funeral service for Retired CW2 Harvey Dwayne Jones, 79 of Killeen, TX will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Maxdale Cowboy Church in Killeen, TX. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) at the church. Burial will be held at a later date at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Harvey Dewayne Jones was born on November 10, 1946, in Kaufman, Texas (Round Community), to Jessie and Laddis (Wren) Jones. He was raised in a large and loving family alongside his 13 siblings, as well as 4 half-siblings and 2 step-siblings.

Harvey attended Booker T. Washington School in Forney, Texas, where he was recognized for his academic excellence. In 1968, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorably for 22 years and 7 months before retiring. Throughout his distinguished military career, Harvey earned numerous decorations, medals, badges, and ribbons, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal.

Following his retirement from the Army, Harvey continued his pursuit of education at the University of Central Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1994. He later began a second career with the Copperas Cove Independent School District, serving as a computer programmer until his retirement in 2008.

Harvey was united in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Verna Collins, and together they shared 30 years of love, devotion, and partnership. He was a proud and loving father and a cherished "PawPaw" to his grandchildren. Harvey deeply valued his family and friendships, and his warmth and kindness touched all who knew him—he truly never met a stranger.

A man of many talents, Harvey also enjoyed working with computers. He also found joy in life's simple pleasures: reading, traveling with his family, cooking steaks, and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a deep love for music and spent many hours in his music room playing the keyboard and bass guitar. He held a special place in his heart for his beloved "fur baby," Hailey Marie, whom he spoiled with love and treats.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie James Jones and Laddis Jones (Wren); Ora Lee Jones; his sisters, Jossie Redic, Earline Williams, Irett Jones, Frances Buchanan, Etta Summerfield, Ida King, and Gertrude Williams; and his brothers, John L. Jones, Jessie Jones Jr., Hollis Jones, Billy Jones, Larry Jones, Tony Jones, and Robert Jones.

Harvey peacefully departed this life on March 26, 2026, at Hillside Rehabilitation Lodge in Gatesville, Texas. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Verna Jones of Killeen, TX; his children, Marcus (Lashell) Kennedy of Terrell, TX; Toriano Flowers of Vancouver, WA; Abeni (Grifflon) Randle of Cordova, TN; Sametria (Dexter) Alexander of Millington, IN; an adopted daughter Alexandria (Malik) Haidara of Gaithersburg, MD; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sisters, Janet Witherspoon of Terrell, TX, Janice Richard of Dime Box, TX, Sandra Paul of Terrell, TX, and Betty Johnson of Houston, TX; his brothers, Curly Broughton of Ohio and Roy Lee Choice of Terrell, Texas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, along with a host of cherished friends.
