Obituary

Funeral service for Retired MAJ Freddie Floyd, Jr., 73 of Killeen, TX will be held Monday, August 9, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Deliverance and Praise Temple COGIC in Harker Heights, TX. Burial with military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Mr. Floyd passed away July 26, 2021 in Temple, TX.

Freddie Floyd, Jr. was born December 18, 1947, in Orlando, FL to parents Lucille Floyd-Brown and the late Freddie Floyd, Sr. He graduated from Jones High School in Orlando, FL. He attended College in Orlando, FL and Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, TX where he received his Master's Degree.

Freddie enlisted in the United States Army on January 7, 1967, and served his country proudly, obtaining the rank of Major. He served in the Vietnam War during two combat tours and in Desert Storm/Desert Shield. He retired receiving an honorable discharge on October 31, 1991.
His awards, medals and ribbons include: A Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal with Service Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign
Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm w/one Bronze Star (2nd Award), Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal (Unit), Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal.

Following his military career, he was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs for over 20 years and retired from Civil Service. He was a Licensed Master Social Worker- Advanced Practice (LMSW-AP). Freddie was also a University Adjunct Professor. He loved his family and God. He was a past member of Zion Temple COGIC and a past member of Grace Christian Center.

Left to cherish his memory: his wife, Billy Jean Floyd of Killeen, TX; son, Freddie Floyd III of Los Angeles, CA; daughters, Charmaine Floyd of Orlando, FL, Chesca R. Ugorji (Joseph) of Everett, WA; mother, Lucille Brown of Orlando, FL; brothers Clarence Floyd (Janet) of Orlando, FL, Michael Floyd (Kim) of Austin, TX; sisters Brenda Floyd-Williams of Orlando, FL, Gloria Floyd-Matthews of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Thyartra Floyd, Ceji Lawrence, Edward Lawrence, Genesis E. Ugorji, Elim M. Ugorji, and Charis S. Ugorji; one great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Freddie Floyd, Sr., brother James Floyd, and sister Annie Florence Floyd.
