Funeral service for Retired CW3 Edgar Washington Jr., 78 of Harker Heights, TX will be held Friday, June 27, 2025, 12:00 p.m. at CHARIS Church in Killeen, TX. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) at the church.

Edgar Washington Jr., aka Mr. Ed, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, soldier, and friend passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, leaving behind a powerful legacy of service, strength, and family.

Born on April 29, 1947, in Leona, Texas, Edgar was the beloved son to the late Edgar Washington and Lilla Mae "Big Baby" Brown.

Edgar graduated from Washington Perkins High School in 1965 and soon after answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army.

During this period, he met and married his first wife, Jennie Faye Washington, and together they raised three beautiful children.

Edgar's military service was marked by distinction, courage, and unwavering dedication. Over the course of a remarkable 24-year career, he earned numerous awards: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/1 Oak Leaf  Cluster, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal w/Clasp, Bronze, 3 Loops, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon w/Numeral 2, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon w/Numeral 3, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm. His service took him across the world, always representing his family and country with honor.

After retiring from the Army in 1989, Edgar continued to serve his community, working for the State of Texas as a Corrections Officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the Hughes Unit for ten years, which he earned the ability to retire from in July of 2002. Edgard's life was about more than duty. Edgar enjoyed life whether it was cutting the lawn, planting flowers, traveling, eating (he loved his sweets), sitting in the garage listening to music and feeding his horses. He had a deep love for horses, especially his beloved Angel and the late Cadillac and Sandy. As such he founded the Rough Riders of Killeen in 1999 and was an active member of the Central Texas United Trail riders Association.

In October 2016, Edgar started a beautiful new chapter and married his wife, Carmen. Through this union he gained two bonus children.

Edgar leaves behind a strong and loving family: his wife, Carmen Washington of Killeen, TX; daughters, Sandra Mays (Sammie), and Renika Washington (David); son, Edgar Lee Washington; stepdaughter, Ashley Nation; stepson, Octavian Dural (Tiffany); twelve grandchildren, Dominic (Kelanda) Purvis, Vondale (Keyonna) Purvis, Devaunte Jackson, Makai Shaw, Sa'mmia Mays, Edgar S. Washington, Keiffnei' Washington, Elijah Washington, Brianna Washington, Taliah Washington, Prince-Ahmir Washington, and Empiress Washington; four great-grandchildren, Cameron Purvis, Jaden Purvis, Li'anna Purvis, and Amari Purvis; nine step grandchildren, Sariyah Dural, Tristen McMiller, Jaziah Lopez, Tymperence Dural, Octavian Dural Jr., Milania Bruswick, Remington Grahmann, Pauline Brunswick and Atreyu Dural; brother, Johnny Washington; special niece, Annie Mae Goodwin, special nephew, Reggie Washington; his faithful horse, Angel; a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Lilla Mae Washington; his first wife, Jennie Faye Washington, brothers, Carl Sr. and Joe Dale Washington, and his favorite horses, Cadillac and Sandy.

Edgar Washington Jr, aka Mr. Ed will be remembered not only for his service and strength, but for his loyalty, his laughter, and the countless lives he touched along the way. His legacy rides on – in the trails he blazed, the family he loved, and the honor with which he lived.
