Visitation for Retired TSgt Douglas J. Woods, 81 of Harker Heights, TX will be held Monday, May 9, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Mr. Woods passed away April 30, 2022, in Harker Heights, TX.

Douglas Junior Woods was born November 19, 1940, in Washington Pa. to the late Georgia Mae Morris and Douglas Woods Senior. Douglas was a star athlete at Bethlehem Center HS, Pennsylvania where he won numerous awards and trophies in Football and Track & Field while also participating in many other school team activities. While growing up in Marianna, Pa. a small Coal Mining town he knew the only way for a better life he needed to join the military or move away from the small, isolated community.

Douglas was baptized under the leadership of the late Reverend Floyd Palmer of Shiloh Baptist Church of Butler, Pennsylvania October 22, 1995.
Douglas joined the United States Air Force on November 15, 1963, where he excelled to the rank of E-6 (Technical Sergeant). He served his country proudly for over 23 years with an honorable discharge April 1, 1984. While serving his country he received multiple awards and accolades for his service and dedication to his fellow Airmen and country to include: Armed Forces Expedition Medal, Air Force Longevity Ribbon (4 Oak Leaf Clusters), National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal (6 Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Force Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), and Meritorious Service Medal. In 1977. While also in the Air Force he wrote music and sung as well. In the early 60's he wrote a song called "Christmas Time" which was recorded by Five Star Music Productions in Boston, Mass. He also wrote songs for Columbia Records.

Douglas was a very avid sportsman who loved fishing with family and friends and had a keen sense of knowledge of every sport out there. You could call him if you missed any sporting event to get an update on the game as well as the individual player's life history. He loved camping outdoors and operating the BBQ grill with chicken, ribs, fish while socializing with friends and family and drinking one of his favorite ice-cold beverages, (Budweiser, or Bud Light).

He loved all kinds of bud if you catch my drift. One time we were at the lake fishing and the next thing I know is that he had killed a groundhog and it was on the grill with BBQ sauce tasting just like chicken. Another time when he was camping and fishing a snake ate his fish and the next thing, I saw was a snake with his mouth ripped open. Dad said, "he is not going to get my fish!"
My dad was also known as a soccer dad because he would pick up all the kids and take them to school, even when my friends had moved across town, he was always there.

Douglas is survived by his brother Robert Jones Jr of Temple, TX., Daughter Desa LaNair Duncan of Harker Heights, TX, Howard Eugene Duncan (Son In-law) of Harker Heights, TX, Howard Eugene Duncan Jr. ( Grandson) of Harker Heights, TX, Tanesha LaShay Duncan (Granddaughter) of Killeen, TX, William White (Brother In-Law) of Las Vegas, NV, Janene White (Niece), William White Jr. (Nephew), Latoya Jones (Niece), Viola Whitmore (Aunt) of Ohio

Douglas is preceded in death by his Georgia Mae Fryson (Mother), Douglas Woods Sr. (Father), Lois Marene White (Sister), Robert Jones III (Nephew)

Many people loved his mentorship and expressed their appreciation for the knowledge that he passed on to them like some of his favorite friends: Jerome & Linda Cooper, Don & Debra Toscano, Steve & Jenie Lawrence, and Garrett Coleman.
