Funeral service for Retired SGT Desmond Owens, 42 of Killeen, TX will be held Monday, September 27, 2021, 9:00 a.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Burial with military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 26, 2021 (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.

Mr. Owens passed away September 9, 2021 in Harker Heights, TX.

Desmond Owens was born June 11, 1979, in Sacramento, CA to parents Wilburn Richardson and Bobbie J. Wilson. He was raised in Portland, OR. He attended Mosley High School in Panama City, FL and graduated from Job Corp in Kentucky in 1998.

Desmond enlisted into the United States Army in October of 2000. He served his country for over 6 years and received an honorable discharge in June of 2007. His awards, medals and ribbons include: The Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon (2nd Award), and the Basic Aviation Badge.

Desmond was a present member of Christian House of Prayer in Killeen, TX since 2004. His life was music. He wrote several original songs and performed them at different events.

Left to cherish his memory: son, Desmond Owens, Jr. of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Zion E. Owens of Killeen, TX; brothers, Lamon Jefferson of Portland, OR, and Mickey Richardson of Medford, OR; sisters Airica Briones of Houston, TX, and Melissa Owens of Killeen, TX; nephew, Micah Richardson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wilburn and Bobbie J. Richardson.
