Funeral Servies for Retired SSG Deacon Daniel Leon Parker 69, of Killeen will be held Friday, February 25, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at God's Holy Tabernacle COGIC in Killeen, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.) at the church.
Mr. Parker passed away February 3, 2022.
Daniel Leon Parker was born May 29, 1952, in Livingston, TX to parents Luretha and George E. Parker. Daniel was raised in Shepherd, TX, and he graduated from Shepherd High School in 1971. On June 2, 1972, he married the love of his life, Linnie Harrington, and spent 49 wonderful years together.
He was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield Wars. He retired after 20 years of service with an honorable discharge. His awards and medals include: The Army Commendation Medal W/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal W/4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal (6 th Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon Numeral 3, Marksman Badge Rifle, National Defense Service Medal W/1 Service Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal W/3 Bronze Service Stars, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.
Daniel was a present member of God's Holy Tabernacle COGIC of Killeen, TX, and a past member of Shepherd Pentecostal COGIC in Shepherd, TX. Daniel's hobbies were baking and decorating cakes, fishing, and playing the guitar. Daniel was a Deacon for 43 years and served at Gods Holy Tabernacle COGIC as a member of the Trustee Board, Music Department, Brotherhood President, Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and YPWW President.
Left to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Linnie J. Parker of Killeen, TX; sons, Christopher L. Parker (Teri) of Killeen, TX, and Daniel L. Parker, Jr. of Rockdale, TX; daughters, Bunnita L. Harrington of Killeen, TX, and Laquinta D. Honora (Chaddrick) of Houston, TX; brother, Raymond Parker (Renee) of Loveland, OH; sisters, Erma Jean Lee (Tony) of Dangerfield, TX, Karen Harrel (Robert) of Jacksonville, FL, Janice Holt of Jacksonville, FL, Brenda Chambers of Shepherd, TX, Sandra Parker of Shepherd, TX, Marcia Baffoe of Cleveland; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; special friend, Paul Holley (Catherine) of Jacksonville, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents Luretha and George E. Parker; sisters, Georgia Singletary, Joann Parker, and Katherine Yates; brothers, Norris Wheaton, and Arthur Wesley Parker.
