Obituary

Funeral services for Retired SFC Connie Lee Bratcher 78, of Copperas Cove, Texas will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, Texas.  Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX.

Mr. Bratcher passed away February 13, 2021, in Killeen, Texas.

Connie Lee Bratcher, Jr. was born June 26, 1942 in Columbus, Texas to Minnie Mae (Powell) Bratcher and Connie Lee Bratcher, Sr.

He graduated from Riverside High School in Columbus, Texas and later joined the United States Army where he served for 21 years before retiring with an honorable discharge on August 31, 1983 with the rank of Sergeant First Class.  His many awarded decorations, medals and badges included the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 3), Vietnam Service Medal (w/2 Bronze Service Stars), Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (w/Silver 1 Loop), and Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle).

He married Margaret Green on December 17, 1967 in Hattiesburg Mississippi. To that union 3 children were born. He also had 1 child prior to marrying Margaret.

He joined Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church on July 11, 1982 and was an active member of the Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, Bible Study and Brotherhood. He also served as an Usher and Trustee and had the distinct honor of being appointed Trustee Emeritus.

While stationed in Germany and many years after he returned to the States Brother Bratcher would referee football and basketball games and umpire baseball games. He loved to go to the Copperas Cove High School football games where he held season tickets. He also worked for the City of Copperas Cove and loved to travel when he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Mae Bratcher and Connie Lee Bratcher Sr., sisters, Hattie Hargrove, and Evelyn Colvin.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Margaret Ree Bratcher, Copperas Cove, Texas; daughters, Rhonda Smith (Marcus), Copperas Cove, Texas and Sandra King (Rickey) Houston, Texas; sons, Calvin Bratcher, Killeen, Texas and Reginald Bratcher, Killeen, Texas; Sisters, Jewel Coleman (Bennie), Pearland, Texas; Anna Bratcher, Round Rock, Texas, and Lillian Watson, Houston, Texas; Brother, Leon Bratcher, Sr., Columbus, Texas; Grandchildren Constance Cook (Anthony), Candace King, Daquon Bratcher (Dequilla), Brittani Washington, Brianni Washington, Whittani Washington, Nikki Bratcher, Whitney Pearce, Kevin Crow and Nick DeBerry; great grandchildren Dionne Bratcher, Aniyah Cook, Malakye Depree Daughtry, Jaiden DeBerry, Aurianna Pearce, Genesis Monroe Felder and many relatives and friends.
