Funeral service for Retired SSG Charles Edward Hewitt, 68 of Pflugerville, TX will be held Monday, September 18, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church in Killeen, TX. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Charles Edward Hewitt, an Army Veteran, was born on December 22, 1954, to Willie Charles Hewitt and Willie Lee Hewitt in Houston, Texas. Mr. Hewitt passed away September 5, 2023, in Houston, TX.

At the age of 21, Charles Hewitt enlisted in the Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his time in the Army, he met his wife Brigitte in Germany, where they married on January 24, 1980, and were the proud parents of three children, Natalie, Tyrone, and Tamika.

During his time in the Army, he was stationed in several places, including South Korea and Germany, and participated in the Liberation of Kuwait from December 26, 1990, to May 1, 1991. Some of his accomplishments in the Army include 6 Good Conduct Medals, 5 Army Commendation Medals, 4 Overseas Ribbons, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. He honorably served 20 years until he retired on August 1, 1996.

After retiring from the Army, he lived according to Ephesians 5:25 and loved his wife as Christ loved the church and was devoted to her care for 25 years. He also fulfilled a promise to his mother by graduating with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Tarleton University. In retirement, Charles and Brigitte deepened their faith in Christ and found friendship as faithful members of Westside Baptist Church. Retirement also allowed Grandaddy, as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren, to spend more time with family and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Willie Charles Hewitt, mother, Willie Lee Hewitt, and sister, Gayla Ward. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Brigitte Hewitt; three children, Natalie Woods, Tyrone Hewitt (Eushekia), Tamika Hewitt Bing; five grandchildren, Jasmine, Alyssa, Calvin, Annaliese, and Aviana; and three sisters, Gloria Williams, Gladys Rogers, Donna Denson, and Jocelyn Ford; and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
