Obituary

Funeral service for Retired SFC Barbara Ann Turner, 70 of Killeen, TX will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Viewing will be held two hours (12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.) prior to the service at the funeral home.

Inurnment with military honors will be held Monday, March 29, 2021, 3:00 p.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Mrs. Turner passed away March 13, 2021, in Temple.

Mrs. Barbara Ann Turner, daughter of the late Sandy Wooden and Mrs. Frances Wooden, was born August 17, 1950 in Lee County, Alabama.

At an early age, she confessed Christ and united with the St. James Baptist Church in Opelika, Alabama.

She was a 1968 graduate of the historic J.W. Darden High School in Opelika, Alabama. Mrs. Turner enlisted and served in the United States Army for 20 years. During her serve she was promoted to SFC (E7) and also received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Completed First Full term of service. She also received a Rifle Bar Driver and Mechanic badge with Driver-A Bar.  She later retired and soon after, she pursued a career as a Juvenile Probation Officer in Bell County for 15 years while obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work.

Mrs. Turner was affectionally known for her kindness and left a legacy of that kindness and love to live in the hearts of her family and friends.

On Saturday March 13, 2021, she was called to her heavenly home at the Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. She was preceded in death by her late husband Bennie Carl Turner, her father, Mr. Sandy Wooden, and her mother Frances Stinson-Wooden.

Left to cherish her memories: her son, Willie T. Burton of Killeen, Texas; daughter, Porche' N. Turner of Killeen, Texas; grandson, D'Andre German-Turner, her sister Dorothy Blackmon and a host of nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
