Funeral service for Retired CSM Alzalkia Christopher Jones, 86 of Harker Heights, TX will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Greater Vision Community Church in Killeen, TX. Burial with Full Military Honors will be held at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) at the church.

Mr. Jones passed away August 11, 2025, in Copperas Cove, TX.

Alzalkia "Zack" Christopher Jones, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, was born on May 9, 1939. As a Jones' child, he grew up destined for a life as one who would serve. However, at age 5, his family was forced to leave Georgia due to his father's involvement in the civil rights movement. His family settled in Columbus, Ohio where he and his siblings grew up. Growing up was a pleasant experience, with strong families and safe neighborhoods, and self-reliant parents who kept close tabs on their three children. He successfully finished high school in 1957. He then enrolled at Central State University until the military draft called. He chose the army and enlisted in 1959.

He completed Army bootcamp and was assigned as an Armor Crewman. From this, he went on to complete 30 years of honorable service.

He worked hard and became one of the most renowned Command Sergeant Majors in the United States Army history.

His many assignments include:

·       Office of Inspector General, 1st Calvary Division

·       1st Squadron, 7th Calvary as the Squadron Command Sergeant Major

·       1st Squadron, 9th Calvary

·       1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, TX

He was a graduate of numerous military educational courses; a graduate of the Second Army Noncommissioned Officers Academy. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Park University. He was also a distinguished member of the 7th Calvary Regiments. His career is recognized in a book entitled 100 Sergeants Major of Color.

He is survived by: his stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends.
