With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ralph Julius (RJ) Collins, who left us on April 21, 2025, to join his Lord and Savior. Born on September 23, 1940, in Quitman, GA, RJ was the beloved son of Ralph and Mary Lou Collins.

After excelling in high school in his hometown, RJ was awarded a football scholarship and attended Florida State University. A football injury cut his athletic career short, but soon after, he and his brother, Ronnie, went into business together, developing land and neighborhoods and constructing and selling homes.

RJ's professional life was marked by numerous accomplishments. He played a key role in initiating the State of Florida's Housing Finance Authority, served four years on the Leon County Housing Finance Authority, and was a spokesperson for the Florida Association of Realtors, supporting legislative matters. He also served as the Committee Chairman for the renovation of the National Association of Realtors headquarters in Chicago, IL. In 1992, he was honored by his peers as the President of the Florida Association of Realtors.

While in Florida, RJ was instrumental in working with local and state leaders on the purchase of land for conservation purposes. In 2000, he relocated to the Austin metro area, where he found a new passion in planning, financing, development, and construction of low-income tax credit units in Texas, Florida, and Illinois. He was also involved in the planning, financing, and construction of over 3,000 affordable single-family homes and apartments and more than 4,000 single-family lots.

Later in his life, RJ turned his focus to commercial land development in Salado and throughout Texas. He also had a charitable spirit and assisted a number of churches with their construction in the Salado area. His true nature was a testament to his determination and his refusal to give up, no matter the challenge. Though he may have been emotionally reserved, his actions spoke volumes about his love and care for those around him.

RJ leaves behind a legacy of diligence and tenacity that will inspire his loved ones. Admired for his work ethic and steadfastness, RJ was known for his determination, drive, resourcefulness, vision, and astute mind. His compassion and generosity were evident throughout his life, and his memory will forever be cherished.

RJ was preceded in death by his wife, Ronnette Hodges; his sister, Elaine Bembry; and the mother of his children, Linda Alexander. He is survived by his brother, Ronnie Collins of Tallahassee, FL, and his children: Jay Collins Jr. of Bartlett, TX; Debbie Roddenberry of Havana, FL; Timothy Collins of Odessa, FL; Alex Collins of Tallahassee, FL; and Will Collins of Franklin, TN. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A celebration of RJ's life will be held at Heritage Country Church, 9677 Lark Trail, Salado, TX 76571, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of his remarkable journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cal Farley Boys Ranch, Amarillo, TX, reflecting RJ's lifelong commitment to helping others.
