Opal Faye Smith, age 61, passed away peacefully February 12, 2021. She was born January 11, 1960 in Temple, Texas to Roosevelt and Ipha Smith. She gave her life to Christ and joined Bethesda Fellowship in 2002 and was a member for almost 20 years. Opal loved to love on people. She wanted to make sure no one was without. At Bethesda, she served on the Usher Board and was a member of the choir. She loved to draw, plant, write, and make things memorable. She also believed that whatever you have, one should make it their own.
After graduating Copperas Cove High in 1978, Opal joined the Army and served 6 years as a Supply Sergeant. In 1984 her son Dametrious LaShawn Smith (DL) was born. In 1986 she was accepted into Kansas State where she pursued a degree in psychology. Opal worked at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), as a Correctional Officer from 1990-1997.
Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Deuteronomy 28:13 – "And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them"
Opal is survived by her sister Brenda and husband Milton; her son Dametrious and his wife Nicole; grandchildren, Amiyah, Jordyn, and Elijah. She leaves to mourn her a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends who loved her dearly. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
