Ulysses "Spook" Hansel Jr., age 70, passed away to his heavenly home on October 15, 2026, in Harker Heights, Texas. He was born on October 14, 1956, in Duval County (Jacksonville), Florida.
Ulysses came to Copperas Cove as an elite athlete and excelled in all sports at Copperas Cove High School, where he graduated in 1975—including track and field, football, basketball, and baseball. Continuing his need for speed after high school, he was frequently seen cruising in his yellow and black GT Mustang "Sir Spook" or at Skate World, where he amazed all with his ability on skates.
Known as a ladies' man, Ulysses was never without a dance or pool partner at any of his favorite country music haunts, and he always enjoyed testing his luck and having a good time playing bingo. He will be remembered as a know-all and fix-all of all things automotive, frequently seen with a ratchet in one hand and a phone in the other. While life may have slowed him down, he was loved by many and will be missed by more. His family had many branches, each with its own story, but to him, the meaning of family was never complicated. Family was family, and everyone had their place in his life. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, and a great friend, and all of what he was will continue to be passed on through all of his children.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ulysses Hansel Sr.; his stepfather, Larry Wright; his sister, Amanda Hansel; his son, Ulysses "Nik" Hansel; and his granddaughter, Alexya.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret (Scott) Hansel-Wright; his sisters, Michele Ottenwalder-Gordon, Angela Hansel, and Johanna Hansel; his children: Brandi Flowers, Micah Glandon, Nakita Hansel, Joel Gross, Kelsey Miller, and Margaret Hansel; his 18 grandchildren: Kanion, Bretni, Jaiden, Aariss, Sydnei, Zayda, Jantz, Ryatt, Peyton, Wyatt, Aarial, Maverick, Emmerick, Aniyah, Zaylena, Isabella, Malachi, and Lily; his great-grandchild, Adelyn; his nieces, Ny’kiel Hayden and Sheràll Dunson; his nephew, T.C. Ottenwalder Sr.; as well as his numerous grandnieces and his grandnephews.
