Funeral service for Mother Julia Maryellen Boykins, 81 of Spring, TX will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, 12:00 p.m. at The Cathedral of Deliverance and Praise COGIC in Harker Heights, TX. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) at the church.

Burial will be held Monday, September 9, 2024, 12:00 p.m. at the Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery in Houston, TX.

Julia Boykins was born to the late Herman Hagan Sr. and Mabel Hagan on August 9, 1943. She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

She married the late SSG Clyde O. Boykins (Ret) in 1957. Julia was educated in the Chicago Public School System and later received an Associates Science Criminal Justice degree from Central Texas College. She later retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after twenty years of service.

Julia accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in her early twenties; there her work began. A founding member and trustee of Zion Temple Church of God in Christ, she continued her faithful service to The Cathedral of Deliverance and Praise Church of God in Christ. Upon relocating to the Houston area, Julia devoted her faith and time to the Word of Life Church under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Scott.

She was an active member of her senior community. Julia planned events, taught bible study, was a connoisseur of puzzles and a known bulldozer leading the way to a good time.

Julia is preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Herman Hagan, Lucretia Hagan-Moore; grandchildren Kendrick Smith and Khai Vang. She leaves to cherish her memories: three children, Dennis Boykins, Seglenda Smith, Aquilla Vang (Neng); siblings, Robert Cooper, Roberta Cooper, and Harold Cooper; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends
