Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Mae Nero, 91 of Killeen, TX will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2022, 12:00 p.m. at the Excellent Covenant Powerhouse Ministries in Killeen, TX. Burial will follow the service at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) at the church.

Mrs. Nero passed away August 18, 2022, in Belton, TX.

Minnie Mae Nero was born in Chicago, Illinois, to William and Clara Nero on December 28, 1930. She was the eldest of eleven children.

She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings, Edward, William, Elaine, Delores, John, Elizabeth, Bradford, and Zefferine. Minnie didn't hesitate to help her friends, family, or anyone in need.

Minnie got her education attending the Chicago Public School system. Some places of worship included Woodlawn Mennonite Church, her home church in Chicago was the First Church of Deliverance. She put her God-given, beautiful voice to use and joined the choir. Minnie was a great baker and cook, passing her culinary skills off to her children; you taught us well Minnie! She could make a meal out of nothing.

Minnie gave birth to 12 children, Nieta, Robert, Barbara Ann, Senoria, Jerry, Marvin, Margaret, Kelvin, Orvelle, Minnie, Mason, and Aaron. She was preceded in death by six of her children, Orvelle, Senoria, Robert, Barbara, Jerry, and Mason. She lived a long life to see five generations of her family and even helped in raising them.

Minnie worked in the Dietary Department at Evanston Hospital and various other jobs in the food industry. Raising her children was the most challenging job of all. She survived everything the world threw at her. When she was knocked down, she got back up.

Minnie left Chicago in 1986 to live with her son, Kelvin, in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and even Europe, living in Kitzingen, Berlin, and Baumholder, Germany, with Kelvin and Sabrina. She was so thrilled when she traveled to Brussels, Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Italy, and especially Vatican City. All the way from the south side of Chicago.

All of her former friends preceded her in death.

Minnie met and grew to love her new family of friends in Nolanville, Harker Heights, and Killeen, Texas. She was a proud charter member of her church of 18 years, under the leadership of Pastors Kelvin and Sabrina Nero of Excellent Covenant Powerhouse Ministries. She enjoyed her outings like going to dinner and the movies with her special church family group, watching her favorite movies, like The Color Purple, at home over and over again, talking on the phone, attending church, and worshiping God.

Minnie, also known as "Moocie," "MaDear," or affectionately called "BaDear"

All that knew Minnie knew she was the Original MaDear; witty, hip, young at-heart, and a force to be reckoned with until the end. To God be the glory!

Left to cherish her memory are: children, Nieta Aawad, Marvin (Cheryl), Margaret Nero-Wilson, Kelvin (Sabrina), Minnie Nero-Saboti, Aaron (Walya) Donna Hanks, and Vergie Partee; 35 grandchildren; over 50 great- and great[1]great-grandchildren; siblings, Annette Nero of Mesa, AZ, Mirian Ruth Mailey, and David Mailey(Lydia); aunt, Ruth Broom; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, special sons, daughters, and extended family and friends.

Thanks to Kelvin and Sabrina for looking after our mother over 25 years. The Family gives a special heartfelt thanks to the ECPM Family and all who reached out to help in our time of need with Mother Minnie.
