Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Weatherby 66, of Birmingham, Alabama will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021, 12:00 p.m. at Bethesda Fellowship Ministries in Copperas Cove, Texas. Burial will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon) at the church.
Mrs. Weatherby passed away June 27, 2021 in Birmingham, AL.
Martha S Weatherby was born August 24, 1954, in Birmingham, AL to Bernice Smith and Don. She was raised by the late Ruben and Rebecca Smith of Bessemer, AL. After graduating Hueytown High School, she married her High School sweetheart and the love of her life the late Jonathan Weatherby and settled in Killeen, TX. She committed to Christ and became not just a member, but a pillar of the church community at Bethesda Fellowship Ministries in Copperas Cove, TX. Martha's outgoing personality and warm spirit touched many lives. She loved her family, friends, and her church, and she loved life.
Martha had many talents and was willing to share those talents with all around her. She joined Bethesda Fellowship in October of 2000, making her a member for over two decades. She served as an usher, hospitality and with the Women's Dept. She became the church secretary and was later elevated to the position of Church Mother and leader of the Mother's Board. She started an Annual Fashion Show which eventually was named in her honor, as the "Martha S. Weatherby Annual Fashion Show." In her later years, she became the Church Mother Emeritus for the ministry.
Martha was preceded in death by her father Don and mother Bernice Smith Peoples; her aunt and uncle Rueben and Rebecca Smith who raised her, and by her sisters Lucy Ann Horton and Diane Peoples James. She is survived by a loving granddaughter and caretaker Telisha Smith of Bessemer, AL; daughter Sharon Smith and son Anthony (Wanda) Smith of Bessemer AL; sister Louise Peoples Thomas (Michael) of Birmingham, AL; brothers Jerry Peoples and Larry Peoples of Tuscaloosa, AL and JT Peoples of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren Kendarius Gardner, Alundria Smith, Anthony Smith Jr, Antoine Smith, Angel Smith, Arron Smith of Bessemer, AL; great grandchildren Genesis, Geniyah, Kamyah, DJ, Kaydance, and Kashton, and a devoted family friend Tia Williams.
