Funeral service for Mrs. Marion Elizabeth Watkins, 89 of Killeen, TX will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Killeen, TX. Burial will follow the service at the Killeen City Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) at the church.

Marion Elizabeth Watkins was born in Mebane, North Carolina on October 26, 1932, to Robert and Golden Tinnin.  On March 8, 2022, she left her earthly body at the age of 89.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 41 years, John "Johnnie" William Watkins; her brothers William, Walter, Howard, and Donald Tinnin; her sister Louise Addison; and her grandson, Jonathan Watkins (Jeris' twin brother).

Marion was united in Holy matrimony with Johnnie on March 20, 1949, and to this union four children were born.  She was a devoted wife and mother who always put the needs of her family first and foremost.  Marion spent her entire adult life as a military wife traveling from one duty assignment to another until Johnnie retired in Killeen, Texas.

Marion's rebirth in Christ came at an early age and in 1963 she united with Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess and as the Secretary of Deaconess from 1975-1982.  She was also a choir member and served on the children's nursery team.

Outside her church, Marion reached out to embrace those in her community.  To aid and assist whenever possible, she gave of herself to those who were sick, lonely, and in need.  Oftentimes not even recalling the deeds she had done.  In 1979, she served as a Red Cross volunteer in the newborn baby section at Darnell Army Medical Center.  Marion served as the care provider for almost everyone in her neighborhood. This was her gift – extending a compassionate touch.

Knowledge was important to her, so she earned her GED in 1976, and her Certificate of Skilled Nursing Aide and Certificate of Office Skills in 1978 from Central Texas College in Killeen.

Marion leaves to await their reunion in glory her sister Sarah McIver and her children Diana Faye Everett (Willie); Kenneth Watkins (Brenda); Arnold Watkins; and Debbie Watkins.  Also awaiting their reunion are her 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Marion will affectionately be remembered as Mother, Mom, Mamama, Nanna, W, and Bud.
