Funeral service for Mrs. Lucille Marie Ward, 79 of Killeen, TX will be held Friday, February 14, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) at the funeral home.

Mass service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025, 12:00 p.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Killeen, TX. Inurnment will follow the mass at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Lucille Marie Ward, age 79, of Killeen Texas, went to heaven on January 31, 2025. She was born on December 6, 1945 in Port Arthur, Texas.

Lucille was raised to love the Lord. Her and her family attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in their hometown of Port Arthur; where she attended catechism classes and received her "First Communion." Lucille went to Catholic school in her elementary years and excelled. She was very active in school clubs and organizations. Lucille graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964.  As a young girl, Lucille displayed determination and perseverance.  Lucille worked at St. Mary's Catholic Hospital as a "Candy Stripped Nurse," to help save up for college. In that time, those nurses worked odd shifts and did jobs the registered nurses didn't want to do. While working there, Lucille was part of the school's drill team, "The Honey Bees."  She loved music and dancing. Her ambitions to go to college were held back for a year after her high school graduation due to her parent's wishes making her wait until her brother Earice Jr graduated high school and was able to join her. Lucille then attended Prairie View A&M University for a short time but ultimately finishing in Waco at Paul Quinn. She received a bachelor's degree from Paul Quinn A&M University in 1971 and a Master's degree from the University of Central-Texas in 1991.

Lucille met and married Earnest A. Ward Jr, and to this union two children, Derick and Kimberly were born.

Lucille's passion was social work and being of service to others. She retired after a twenty-year career as Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor in Central Texas as a state employee. She was excellent at her job. This was her ideal job and she received many accolades and achievements for her accomplishments. This included recognition from two Texas Governors Ann Richards and Rick Perry.

Lucille was an active community servant and loved volunteering, helping, and mentoring others

As an adult she has been an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She is a Silver Star in the sorority with over 25 years of service in the Mu Theta Omega chapter in Killeen. Lucille was a part of the African American Society at her home church, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Killeen. If you knew Lucille, you would have been invited and have attended a tea, fest- of- all, New Year's Party, Greek Fest, or whatever celebration/initiative she was engaged in. She was the "Hostess with the Mostest!"  Mrs. Lucille Ward impacted many for over 40 years while residing in Central Texas.

Lucille had many hobbies and loved collecting things. She was a scrapbooker, sewer, crocheter, reader, photographer, cook and a great listener. You could always count on Lucille being a top tier classy lady.

Lucille would tell everyone her greatest accomplishment was her family. She loved and supported her family with deep unconditional love.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life of over 50 years: Earnest A Ward Jr.; her parents: Rebecca Margarite Washington and Earice Clinton Kemper Sr. and siblings: Rebecca, Vanessa, David, Nathan, and Earice Jr. She is survived by her son Derick Francis Ward (Juanita) of Houston Texas and Kimberly Nicole Ward-Wesley (Corinthian) of Killeen Texas. Lucille has six grandchildren whom she loved and adored; Aseria, Amir, Derick Jr., Rachel, David, and Amari. She leaves to cherish her memories, three sisters: Ms. Madelyn Kemper of Port Arthur, Texas; Mrs. Almeta Powell of Lampasas, Texas; and Ms. Beverly McCray of Vidor, Texas. She has a host of nieces and nephews she inspired and mentored with love. Lucille also has a broad and extended family and close friends.
