Memorial service for Mrs. Lela Mae Coleman, 85 of Killeen, TX will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at the Chrisitan House of Prayer in Copperas Cove, TX.
Lela Coleman was born in Thornton Mississippi on January 22, 1939, to Mary Jones and Author shields. At the age of thirteen she moved to Indianapolis, IN with her mother. She graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. She passed away April 22, 2025, in Killeen, TX.
While in high school she met Clyde V. March. And after graduation they were married and brought three children into the world. Their names are Jerry D. March, Steven A. March and Debra E. March.
After graduating from high school she enrolled in Nursing School, and while attending nursing school she worked at LaRue Carter Hospital in Indianapolis Indiana, earning her first nursing degree.
In 1966 she and her family moved to Los Angeles California, where she lived and thrived very successfully for 39 wonderful years. While there she earned her next three nursing degrees.
In 2005 she moved to Killeen Tx, after her retirement from Kaiser Permanente Hospital. Upon arriving in Killeen Tx, she went to work at Central Texas College where she worked as a nursing instructor, from 2005 until her final retirement in January 2021.
Lela also attended The Christian House of Prayer from June of 2005 as a member until her final transition into heaven. She served on the church's nursing auxiliary from 2005 until 2023 when she decided to step away because of some health issues. She graduated from The Sonship School Of The Firstborn in 2009.
Lela was a beloved mother to her three children, and she was an amazing friend to all that came her way, and she never failed to put a smile on the faces of everyone that she encountered, making them feel loved, appreciated and respected.
Lela Coleman is survived by her oldest son Jerry D. March, her second oldest son Steven A. March and by her youngest child Debra E. March. She has several grandchildren, beginning with Jame Brown and his beloved wife Donita Brown, Lavelle Brown, Jason Butler, Brandy Thomas, Brent Williams, Steven A. March II, Leland March, and Steven Valdez.
Her great grandchildren include Jaianna Rubalcava, Jame Brown Jr., Najeah Brown, Nazaryas Brown, Naysian March, Lavelle March, Pono Makue, Nyrique Butler, her great great granddaughter is Rubyanna Rubalcava.
She was preceeded in death by her grandfather Pastor Paul Jones, her grandmother Lela Jones, by her mother Mary Jessie McGivney.
