Funeral service for Mrs. Laverda Stokes Woods, 78 of Killeen, TX will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023, 12:00 p.m. at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Killeen, TX. Burial will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023, (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX.

Mrs. Woods passed away March 20, 2023, in Killeen, TX.

Laverda S. Woods was born to Verdie Green Stokes and Roosevelt Stokes Sr. on June 13, 1944, in Florence Community, Merritt, NC.

She attended school in Stonewall, NC and graduated from Pamlico County Training School. After attending college in Raleigh, NC she went off to Boston to live with her sister Erma Bell. From there she began her time servicing her country as a civilian working in Washington D.C. at the United States Dept. Of Agriculture. After moving to Fort Hood, Texas she began her work in the Civilian Personnel Office where she worked for 20+ plus years finally retiring in the mid 90's.

While in Washington, D.C., she met and married her husband, Thomas on February 17, 1968.  They shared many wonderful memories together and traveled to several countries while in the military.

Laverda accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church. On May 31, 1994, she became a charter Member of Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church.  There she served as secretary, and just about anything else that was needed.

She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Timothy R. Woods, Killeen, Texas, Thomas R. Woods, Jr. (Diana) Houston, Texas, and Maurice Stokes (Tonia), Durham, North Carolina, daughter Rosiland A. Woods, Killeen, Texas. Seven grandchildren to include Michael Woods whom she raised, Killeen, Texas, Thomas R. Woods III, and Jazmine Woods, of Houston, Texas; Maurice Stokes, Jr., Ryan LaDel Stokes, Eric Elijah Stokes, and Ezekiel Thomas Stokes of Durham, North Carolina. Brother Von Stokes, Ervin Stokes, Roosevelt Stokes, Jr., Bradford Stokes, William Stokes, Dewey Stokes, and sister Erma S. Bell.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Laverda was preceded in death by her father, mother, one sister Rosetta S. Green and the LOVE of her life, Thomas R. Woods, Sr.
