Karen Marie Mouton, affectionally known as "Kay-Kay," was born on August 6, 1963, to the late Mazel J. Martin and Harris J. Mouton at Fort Benning, GA.
Karen's parents eventually settled in Killeen, TX where she was raised alongside her brothers, Junior and Wendell. Karen attended Killeen HS, where she began to discover her love for fashion and undeniable talent for design. She would ultimately pursue her dream at Prairie View A&M and continue on to earn a B.S. in Fashion Design at the University of North Texas in 1995.
After graduation, Karen travelled in her career and eventually landed in New York. There she achieved unprecedented success, as she displayed her talent through various fashion shows and events. In 2000, Karen gave birth to the "Love of Her Life" … Hailey Marie Ortiz. Karen eventually circled back to Killeen to raise her daughter. There, she also continued her love of the Arts at Shoemaker H.S. as an Art Teacher. She was beloved by her students and thrived in her teaching career.
After eight years of working in Education, Karen retired from teaching to care for her parents. She remained dedicated and selfless in caring for them until their passings.
Karen was a kindred spirit who loved exploring and trying new things. She was recognized as kind, loving, and intelligent by all who know her. Karen's unwavering faith, strength, and spirituality carried her through every aspect of her life.
On February 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends, Karen was taken by the hand and led "Home".
Cherishing her memory and continuing in her spirit are her daughter Hailey Marie Ortiz and her son-in-law, Matthew; brothers, Junior and Wendell; nanny, Marie G. Mouton; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
"Those we love can never be more than a thought away … for as long as there's a memory … they live on in our hearts to stay."
