James Russell Harpe, 78, of Albany, GA, passed away on September 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 28, 1947, in Albany, GA, to Sylvester and Beatrice Harpe.

James, affectionately known as "Duck," lived a life defined by kindness, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family. In his earlier days, he found great joy in simple pleasures —most especially roller skating—and left lasting impressions wherever he went. His contagious smile, heartfelt laughter, and simple but wise counsel touched everyone who had the blessing of knowing him.

He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Kim and Arthur Simmons, and son Rickey R. Harpe. Grandchildren, Christopher Harpe, Diamante Simmons, Alexia Simmons, and A.J. Simmons III; Six beautiful great-grandchildren whom he adored. Siblings: JoAnn Bryant, Ethel Bryant, Beatrice Hill, Alfred Harpe, and Nathanial Harpe.  A host of nephews, nieces and other close relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Beatrice Harpe and three brothers, Jackie, Sylvester and Bobby Harpe.

An intimate celebration of James's life will be held at 1:00pm (CST) on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the home of his daughter at: 5204 Siltstone Loop, Killeen, TX 76542. Friends and family are welcome to attend and honor his memory.

James will be remembered always as a devoted father, and grandfather, whose gentle spirit and joyful presence brought light into the lives of those around him.
