Funeral services for Mrs. Gussie L. Ashurst 87, of Copperas Cove, Texas will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, 12:00 noon at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas. Burial will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.

Mrs. Ashurst passed away April 25, 2023, in Copperas Cove, Texas.

Gussie Lee (Braggs) Ashurst, the second child born to Arthur "Jack" Braggs and Delberta (Owens) Braggs, was born on February 20, 1936, in Limestone County, Texas and she died on April 25, 2023.

She received her elementary and junior high school education in Echols School. She graduated from I.M. Terrell High School, Fort Worth, Texas in 1954.

Gussie united with Sandy Methodist Church, (presently, Union Memorial United Methodist Church), Sandy Community, Texas at an early age. Her faith was evident, and she loved good singing and preaching. One could often hear her verbal affirmations during the singing and preaching during the church services.

Gussie exchanged marriage vows with The Reverend Harold Teen Ashurst on May 24, 1956. He preceded her in death in October 2006. They were married for over fifty years. No children were born from their union.

Gussie and Harold resided in several cities throughout Texas where he served as the pastor of several Methodist Churches. They relocated to Killeen, Texas in the 1980's and resided there for the rest of their lives.

Gussie received her Certified Nursing Assistance training, and she served several patients in that capacity until her retirement.

In addition to her husband, Gussie was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, one sister, two brothers, two nephews, one nephew-in-law, one niece, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Those who remain who will treasure her memory include two sisters: Verda Jarmon (Charles), Killeen, TX., Mary Robinson (Cecil), Richardson, TX; nephew, Gary Robinson (Kristi), Kapolei, HI; niece, Cynthia J. West, Jackson, TN; great nephew, Zachary West, Knoxville, TN and several other great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
