Gregory Smith was born April 2, 1961 at Fort Hood Texas, he passed away August 21, 2023, in Killeen, TX. He was the fifth of eight children born to the late Calhoun and Geraldine Smith. "Greg" attended school in Killeen, TX. He played football in Junior High and basketball in High School. He graduated in 1979 and went on to continue his education at Central Texas College.
Greg accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized by the late Rev. R.A. Abercrombie at Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church. While growing in Christ, Greg served diligently with the Bus Ministry. Greg would often read, study, and share his thoughts about our Lord and Savior. While jotting down some information about one of his final appointments, he wrote: God: I love you, I trust you, I believe in you, I have faith in you.
A few years after graduation Greg left Killeen and began a career working with the Texas Department of Corrections at the Ramsey III Unit in Rosharon, Texas. He worked as a Correctional Officer III for 10 years. In 1993, Greg returned to Killeen where he worked with his beloved brother Eric at Smith Heating and Air until 2015.
Greg had a real passion for music even as a young child and took an interest in all genres. It was said that he would write his own "intro" and time it to the start of the song. This would eventually prompt the beginning of his career as a Disc Jockey at the age of 18 at the KIXS Radio Station in Killeen. But his longest tenure was at KAZI in Austin, where he shared his expertise and love for the art of music for twenty-seven years! in Austin.
Greg was a loving son, brother, and uncle. There was nothing that he wouldn't do for his family, neighbors, and friends. He was passionately committed to and meticulously cared for his parents until God called the Home. Anytime anyone needed him, he was willing to help, even during his own Illness. Greg was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer, brother Jerry, father Calhoun, mother Geraldine, and brother Eric. He leaves to cherish his beautiful life, his siblings Richard Smith (Linda) of Woodbury, MN., Carolyn Smith, Ronald Smith, and Carol Bankhead of Killeen, TX, sister-in-law Monica Smith of Harker Heights, TX,, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, along with special family members, Voncille Smith, Victor Bankhead, Darlene Harris Simpson, a bonus brother, Joseph Polk, and his extended family at KAZI Radio Station.
