Well done my good and faithful servant. These are the words that Gregory A. Russell, Jr. heard on January 3, 2024 from our Lord as he transitioned from this side of life into God's heavenly arms. Gregory was born in Okinawa, Japan on August, 22, 1971 to the late Gregory A.
Russell, Sr and Kathy Ann Russell.

Gregory gave his life to Christ at the tender age of 14 in Ft. Ord, California. After moving to Killeen, he became a member of Greater Vision Community Church. As a military child, his feet landed him in so many places such as California, New Orleans, LA, Ft. Hood, TX and Germany. He is a 1989 graduate of Mannheim American High School in Mannheim, Germany. After graduating from Mannheim, he matriculated to The Grambling State University in Grambling, LA. After several years as a teacher/coach he obtained his Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.

Entering into the world of education after graduating from Grambling, he began his first career position as a coach at Harry Hurst Middle School in Destrahan, LA from August, 1995-May, 1996. Wanting to move closer to be with his family in Killeen, Greg was afforded the opportunity to become a coach in KISD. He began at Fairway Middle School, moving on to the 9th Grade Center and then landing his dream position as a high school coach at Killeen High School. Greg served 27 years in KISD. In 2022, he was awarded a plaque from the Texas High School Coaches Association for 25 years of service.

He has always been passionate about working with the youth of our community and exemplifying this passion daily while at Killeen High School. Teaching and Coaching wasn't just a job for him, but a dedication that permeated through everything that he did. Not only did he coach, but he also served as a City Pool Manager for Killeen Parks and Recreation Department at Long Branch Park for over 10 years. He made connections with youth everywhere he treaded. His soft spirit, smile and laugh was kind and gentle and his love for God was even bigger.

He leaves to cherish his wife, Veronica and daughter, Jeralyn. His mother, Kathy Russell; siblings Glenn, Kacey, Roderick (Candice). His nieces Layna, LaMaya, Kierra, Kaydence and Kamiya. God-daughter Chelsea House (son Xavier); God-Sons Christopher Riley and Terry Mathison (sons: Chandler, Terry, III. and Taisen); God-sisters Vanity Hodges and Arayshaa Jackson. Father-in-Law Harrel Johnson, Sr; Brother-in-Laws Harold Johnson (Latasha) and Frederick Johnson (Shemilia). Best friends: Cory Jenkins and Frankie Martinez. He was proceeded in death by his sister, Kelly and brother, Gerald; maternal grand-parents, Leticia Broussard and Leroy Broussard; paternal grand-parents. James Russell, Dorothy Smith, and James Smith. As well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, family and friends.
