Funeral services for Mr. George Caleb Matthews 29, of Georgetown, Texas will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, 2:00 p.m., at Heritage Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas. Mr. Matthews passed away July 3, 2024, in Round Rock, Texas. He was born January 12, 1995, in Temple, Texas.

Burial will be held on Wednesday, July, 10, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at Garden of Memories Cemetery, in Killeen, Texas.

Caleb's Life Story

George Caleb Matthews was born at 12:36 AM at Scott and White Hospital in Temple Texas. His proud and happy parents are George Nelson Matthews and Abigail Ann Matthews. As the fourth George in the family, the decision to make Caleb his middle name and the name he was called by is grounded in Numbers 13 and 14 and Joshua 13 and 14. Caleb was one of God's special spies and was called by God, "a man who wholly followed God. Caleb had to endure the life of a military brat, and moved from TX, to LA, to GA, NC, to CA in a span from 1995 to 2002. He excelled in school and even skipped a grade.  He could have skipped two grades because he was extremely bright.  Caleb loved everyone and was a happy child. He would say each day as a toddler, "Caleb, happy, you happy?" In 2004, he experienced yet another military move back to Georgia.

Caleb loved basketball. In fact, his first words were, "Bae Ball."  He played on little league teams in NC, CA, and GA. At the age of 12 he started beating his dad regularly in the driveway. Caleb had to endure his dad's absence for yearlong deployments to Iraq twice.  From GA he moved to Hawaii and was still excelling in school and offered to skip yet another grade.

Caleb and his parents have resided in Georgetown since September of 2008. He finally didn't have to move anymore. He attended Georgetown high school, initially the ninth-grade campus which is now East View. In his senior year, he transferred to Gateway High School, the home of the Gators. He loved the orange and green of Gateway and he got to play basketball.

He graduated in 2012 and attended Howard Payne University. Caleb has loved and has been loved by so many people from so many places. His greatest hour was his last hours. Without any influence or knowledge from His parents he decided to be an organ donor at 16 when he got his first license. Caleb loved Heritage Baptist Church. His favorite scriptures are the ones read today.  He would want us all to read and cling to Isaiah 40:28-31 and Romans 8:1, 18-39.  He will be dearly missed. His smile, his joy, his hugs, his giving heart, and his last heroic act will live on.  Caleb happy, you happy?  He desires that even in this sorrow that we be happy.

Caleb, most mornings would say, "I'm so excited." He would want each of us to wake up each day excited.  Finally, if you shoot basketball H4J, hoop for Jesus.  In fact, do everything for Jesus.
